Now that the Calypso Jr. has been kicking around for a few months I'm wondering how it is holding up in general use and whether or not there are any sharpening issues with this new "super steel".

Is ZDP189 steel still rare in knives? This is the only one I know that uses it but I hear a new Spyderco model may be coming out soon.

Sharpening is no problem at all in my experience. The steel is pretty easy to sharpen on ceramic stones or diamond hones and takes an excellent edge. When it comes to sharpening it seems me to be closer to a good carbon steel than to a typical stainless in some ways. No real surprise, hard steels are in my experience almost always easier to sharpen than softish steels anyway. Try so sharpen CPM440V at something like 56RC and you know what I mean.

I've been using my Calypso Jr. quite a lot over the past few weeks, and so far I didn't have any problems at all with it. No chipping, nothing. Edge holding is very good indeed, and the edge geometry is even better for slicing than that of the gray Calapso Jr..

Alright, you never know, but so far I really like the steel. I find it even better than VG-10, my favourite stainless steel.

I LOVE mine!! It cuts like the devil!! I am so diggin' the ZDP 189, that I pre-ordered a Delica w/ ZDP.

Wish they would do an attractive knife out of ZDP...never been a fan of Calypso/Delica/Endura line...maybe a Native or Centofante.

I know what you mean about 56RC sharpening. Ever try to sharpen a bayonet?

I didn't hear about this one. Where did you order from and when is it being shipped? Is it a special run with limited quantity? It it that "blood red" color like the Calypso?

Order from your favorite dealer. It is the new fourth generation Delica(Better ergos, new blade shape, screws assembly), in blue. It is a sprint run...

A sprint run of Natives is slated to use CPM-S125V -- maybe in 2006. This steel is a Crucible product that is suppose to be comparable to Hitachi's ZDP-189.
