You fellows probably know what CPSS means but I can only guess it means clip point stainless steel!
I picked up a low priced Schrade to put in the Christmas gift stash the other night:

Are the handles, frame and blade all lightweight?

Getting close to buck season,so I'm looking forward to having lots of new threads to read when I get back on 12/5.
No internet,no electricity,no phones at this camp.Propane refrig's,water heater, lights and gravity fed spring water to sinks, shower, and pottie!

Happy Thanksgiving, Folks !!!

Relodr36,
Close but no cigar.
The CP is for Clam Pack. SS is Stainless Steel.
The handles are a hard tough plastic. It is a light knife.
Good luck on your hunting trip.

SH3CPSS = Schrade SH3 (Firebird) CP (Clam Pack) SS (WITH SHARPENING STONE!)

Yes, the handle is Zytel, a lightweight fiber reenforced palstic (FRP), and there is the light weight. All three in the series (SP1 Nighthawk 2 5/8", SP2 Raider 3", SH3 Firebird 3 3/4") are stainless droppoints. There was also an SP7 Turbo 5" and an SP8 Cougar 5" guthook. Those two will be less common.

Thanks for the good info,guys!
Now,what's the difference between the SP3 and the SH3?

Excellent picture,Irv !
These models aren't real things of beauty but if they do the job, that's what counts for a "carry" knife.
One of the neighbor boys has been hanging around when I'm in the fur shed and he's been eyeing up the knives I use. Might make a good first knife for him.if his Mom okays it.
Besides,the price was "lightweight" also

Mike,
Thanks for the names of the SP7 & SP8. I have one of each but didn't know what the model name was.

FYI- Any of you wanting a SP3, I just checked & smokey still had some fairly cheap.

I really don't know that there is a difference between the SH3 and SP3. I don't have either. I do note that there was a name change between '92 and '99, with the SP3 being the earlier one. And there were three other models listed in '99, the "X" series of lightweights, SP12X, SP22X, and SP32X, all with blackened blades and sport cords. They were also partially serrated.

There was also an orange version of the firebird.
