What's missing from June Knives Illustrated? Dark Ops, that's what!

I got the June 2005 Knives Illustrated yesterday and just got to read some today. The first thing I noticed is that there was no mention of covert deanimation inside the front cover. In fact, there's no Dark Ops ad in the whole thing.

This issue features a 19-page report from Shot Show 2005 going through the offerings of each and every knife manufacturer in alphabetical order from Bear to Xicar. But they jump from CRKT to DMT, right over Dark Ops.

Dark Ops was at Shot Show, weren't they? And after all the money they've spent with Knives Illustrated running those full-page, premium-placement ads for the the better part of a year, you'd think KI would owe them at least a paragraph or two.

Hmmmm.....

What's the story with these guys? They obviously spent a fortune on those full-page color ads. Anyone ever physically seen one of the knives?

I seem to remember reading that they actually did have some knives at one of the bigger shows, and they were nothing more than decorated/modified ER knives.

Maybe they spent so much money on advertising that they have none left to make more than that handful of knives.

Weren't they basically ripping off other knife maker's designs? Sounds like the industry had enough of their crap and decided to exclude them.

I would'nt say that they "ripped off' anyone, or that their knives were'nt of high quality, but I think that they may have priced themselves out.

When you charge big money for a knife you have to compete against folks like Chris Reeves and Mick Strider.

Allen.

We've discussed the issue of the designs at great depth in previous threads. But what I now find interesting is that they've suddenly discontinued advertising, at least in Knives Illustrated, and were left out of the Shot Show article that carefully and alphabetically covered every other manufacturer. What's going on?

The term "manufacturer" would imply they're actually manufacturing something (something else but vaporware) :D How could they possibly appear in the list that covered all the manufacturers then ?

An excellent point, Mr. faramir. Applying a bit of paint doesn't usually qualify in the knife world as manufacturing.

Well, just got June's Blade, they're still there with the same full page ad.

You know what, I think I have reached a point with them far past being angry, insulted, deceived, etc., I simply don't care any more.

Well, I'm just amused that they're still unable to sell a single knife roughly (IIRC) seven months after their first ad was released. :D

Dunno, maybe they make knives for future generations. DOK may start shipping Extrema Ra...errrr their knives around the year 3000, just after a couple of archeologists found an old copy of BLADE (including their ads) in an ancient ruin. Now that would be a marketing ploy! ;)

You may be right, and, if so, how refreshing to see a company who is truly in it for the long haul and thinks loooooooong term... :)

Click on Order Now! and you get your shopping cart entry annotated "Hey there, Croc has noticed, one or more items included in your order are currently out of stock. Your orders estimated ship date will be 04/30/2005. You will be notified if there is a change in the estimated ship date for your order."

It's all pre-order. They still don't exist.

Ahhhhh... I didn't get enthusiastic enough to click on any "order now" buttons! :)

Speaking of "order now", I think my SnG may have arrived at the post office today, can't wait to get home .......

(But that will be for aother thread).

Well after a good chuckle, it finally dawned on me what exactly an IR invisible knife is good for, which subsequently fits the overall design and ad campaign of Darkops knives...

De-animating the Predator.

Afterall, the Predator's blood does glow, and you wouldn't want that all over your operator's uniform, so that's where the grooves for controlled fluid spray or whatever come in. Terrorists and intergalactic Big-Game hunters beware.
