i have a proto type benchmade that looks simaliar to a sabensa it says prototype june 1998 on the blade .my ? is .is it more valueable to have a prototype that did not become production or one they did produce later? it seems like it would be. but i could be wrong.

Prototypes, if they have any value at all, are likely to be more valuable if the underlying design was ultimately produced and proved to be popular. As an example... Prototype AK47 rifles are very valuable. Prototype LG59-0 rifles have no value.

I think GoodGuy is correct. But Benchmade knives are very popular and some collectors specialize in their products, so I don't think you'll have any trouble reselling your prototype in the future.

some of the BM prototypes are worth a little $$ imho, the ones i have seen sell for a premium are ones that were different than the production model ended up being, ie a 710 w/aluminum handles vs the G10 for example, prototypes which are the exact same as production are, imho, worth about what a production is ie the 804 prototype.

i have had i bet a dozen different ones thru the yrs and this has been my experience with them.

YMMV though.
