I've got the following folding knives:

Emerson Comrade (CQC-12)
Emerson Commander
Microtech Mini-Socom

...I want to get another folder and was thinking about these:

Spyderco Military (carbon fiber handle)
Emerson A100
Strider SNG

Basically, i would like a knife with a blade-style similar to he minisocom, better handle materials (titatium+G10, carbon fiber?), light weight, low-riding in the pocket, steel should be S30v, 154cm, D2, etc.

Besides the above potentials, what else should I look at?

I would vote for the following:

1. Spyderco Military CF S90V - Awesome steel, awesome handle, etc.

2. Benchmade 710 D2. - Also awesome steel, and the proven Axis lock.

The cqc-12 and mini socom elite are two of the finest knives I've ever owned. If your mini-socom isn't the "elite", I'd hunt down one of those. I had a full size Socom elite and it seemed like a great knife design wise, but it failed spine whacks every time. I wish I'd of given more of a chance for the lock to break in but didn't. The sng is a pretty cool knife, but the striders I've had weren't as nice as the mini socom elites or the cqc-12. If you do get the strider, I'd recommend the digital camo, as the tiger striped ones are prone to rust from my experience.
Millitarys are nice knives, especially if you can find the s90v version. Another one to look out for is the benchmade 806, it's a winner. Also maybe consider a sebenza with micarta inlays or a mission mpf.

Thanks for the info and advice. I do like my CQC-12 and minisocom a bunch.

Between the benchmade 710 and the spyderco millie s90v carbonfiber, which one is less noticeable to carry (slimmer profile in pocket, low-rider clip, etc)?

4" blade length is not a requirement, just a ballpark...so, any other knives I should consider?

Zero Tolerance 0300 or Kershaw Tyrade.

I would also add the ZT0200 and ZT0500. The ZT0500 completely disappears into your pocket. There is also the Benchmade 610 Rukus, and 615 mini Rukus, but the mini name is a misnomer for sure. Heck, take a look at the Kershaw Tyrade while you are at it as it is extremely nice and has as beefy a framelock as I've seen in a while!:thumbup::D

Thanks for all the suggestions. You guys sure know your knives.

It's fun to see all the suggestions. Any others out there?

I bought and have been carrying a Benchmade 710D2 based on the recommendation of this forum. I now recommend it to you.

It is of noticeably higher quality than the gen 3 Spyderoco Endura I had carried previously and it takes a wickedly sharp edge and holds it.

ZT 200 it's not a 4" but it's close to 4" and it's a heck of a knife, now all I need is one for myself.

A second vote for the Benchmade 610 RUKUS. It's a hell of a knife and can be completely disassembled by the end user using just two torx bits and reassembled easily without FUBARing it.

AXIS lock. Doesn't side play. Doesn't play up and down. Pivot adjustable on either side to perfectly center the blade open and closed. Open frame construction. Steel liners. End user swappable scales. Ample grip. Rides deep with a very minimalist pocket clip. Totally ambidextrous. Pointed pommel for striking persons or glass. Paracord capable lanyard hole. Coated or uncoated S30V. Nearly full height flat grind. Nice, tough drop point tip.

If you can check one out, make sure it is the full sized one. It's very impressive for a production knife.

The millie is thinner, the 710 rides lower. Millie is tip down, 710 is tip up. Millie is liner lock (one of the best ever at that), and the 710 has the incomparable Axis lock.

Axis locks are fastest knives to deploy and put away one handed, no contest.

As an interesting alternative, perhaps it's time to try a Klotzli, nice designs executed with Swiss precision, one could say the European equivalent to Chris Reeve quality.

Zero Tolerance knives. The 302 and 0200 are made like custom knives. The kershaw tyrade is also one heck of a folder.

I have a 0200 and I played with a 030x. Very, very nice but am I the only one who finds them too heavy for EDC? It will always remind you that it's in your pocket.

Millie if you can find one in S90V or CPM D-2

710 D-2, or better yet 710 M-4 if they ever become available.

Thanks guys.

I'm trying to decide between the military s90v and the microtech socom elite D2. I'm leaning towards the socom...

Which one do you think will be harder to find in a year?
