RIGHT OFF THE BAT, THIS THREAD IS USELESS WITHOUT PICTURES SO FIND PICTURES OF THE KNIVES YOU WANT AND POST THEM WITH YOUR RESPONSE!
The next two "must haves" are the new versions of both the Recon Bowie and Scuba Demo.
I have always loved the design and history of the Scuba Demo and Recon Bowie, but honestly never felt like wise decisions were made (in the original military designs) for true all-environment and conditions carry and use. Of course back then, they didn't exactly have the same knowledge or access to materials that we have now, so that would explain that. I do appreciate that the company, SOG stayed true to the original designs in the first recreations of these historic knives, but also wanted more modernized versions that I think are better suited.
I owned a couple of the SOG Recon Bowies and still have one, but never snatched up an early Scuba-Demo. For what I would want to use it for, I didn't think think that the Scuba Demo would hold up as well as I would want it to. Not to say that under normal usage it wouldn't, but as anyone who knows me knows, I beat the absolute unholy sh#t out of knives and put them in environments where they're likely to "break down", so stacked leather washers and carbon steel wouldn't have been a good setup for a knife of mine with the word "Scuba" in the name. With that name, you can bet your ass that it's going to see salt water and swamp environments and all kinds of shell, rock and sand that will murder the finish.
SOG's latest versions of both of these knives look spot on to how I would have made them if I was sitting in the design department. I'm very stoked about the handles, blade steel choice, everything. As far as where it's made, Taiwan is fine with me. I've tested enough of the SOG Taiwanese knives that I don't have the "Seki hang ups" that a lot of SOG customers have. I've never had a Taiwan knife from SOG malfunction and I've never noticed a change in quality. If anything is wrong with my knife, SOG's warranty department will handle it. I'm not blaming an origin for that. Hell, I've had American made products that needed a warranty fix or replacement.
I'm ready. Can't wait for these to become available.
Now what do you guys going to buy?
