I finished this last night. It is made by cutting all the way through in some places, leaving the skin on in others, and removing part of the rind from the inside and outside for various shading effects. In the light, you can barely tell what it is....but when you turn the inside light (LED) on at night, it almost looks like a 3D hologram image.
Yesterday at work, I had some free time and took a seated liberty half dollar I had sitting around. A few cuts with an engraver and the old gal shed her gown and sat down on the chamber pot. These are called "potty dollars" and were a standard training task for engravers apprentices back in the late 1800's. Some of the $1 coins are very ornate, creating a complete bathroom scene with tiled walls and floors added, flowers in her hand, and even pictures on the wall.
