What's on your hotel nightstand?

-I seem to be spending a fair amount of time on the road lately, (work related), and wondered what like-minded folks had on their hotel nightstand, or readily available. Typically I have a maglight, pocket knife and my clothes are nearby, which have my wallet and keys, and boots ready at the door. I don't care for hotels and always feel a little out of my element, so suggestions and advice would be much appreciated. I don't carry a firearm incidentally, but I usually have a blunt object on the nightstand consisting of an empty beer bottle...(the common Canadian weapon).

Well on the night stand I usually have my knife, flashlight, and ipad, on the chair next to my bed I have my pants and shirt
In my pants I have a multytool wallet and keys, next to my cloths I have my suit case and slip on Shoes at the door and that's about it.

Oh and I have some cool pics from my last hotel stay ill post in a minute!

Well I wanted to mess with the maid sooooo....

I have been doing the same with some new travel for work.

For me I have water a book my Benchmade and all my gear ready to leave in two minutes.
My work stuff I can't care less about and if there is an urgent issue I am gone in a shot.

Don't forget your car, keep everything out of site as this is a hot spot for the crooks out there.

I'm on the road this week too - Beckley, West Virginia. We stay at decent hotels, so not much worry about security, rooms don't open to the parking lot for instance. The hotel table lamps are always handy though. ;)

For 'toys' in the room I've got an Eeepc and a Galaxy Player.

At first I thought it was over priced. After using it for a while I find it was money well spent. Change, chapstick, etc. never roll off the table and get lost.

This is very handy for prescriptions, eye glasses, etc. when you need to grab something quickly and go. I keep shoes, jeans, coat, etc. close to the bed so, during a fire alarm or similar event (you never know what will happen in remote areas) I'm up and out with meds, glasses, cell phone, etc.

I used to travel a lot, and found the Maxpedition Tactical Travel Tray to be incredibly useful, and easy to pack as well. I'll try to do this without deal spotting...

Looks very similar to the Red Oxx "Travel Basket". Are the corner snaps plastic or metal? Is the body padded?

I really like the stiff but flexible padded body of the Red Oxx but, the larger size of the Maxpedition might be worth consideration for business trips with multiple electronic gadgets.

S&W M&P 9mm Pro Longslide
Surefire
iPhone
Whatever knife I happen to be carrying

I just like the notion that this is the common Canadian weapon. :D I do the same thing, by the way. If I don't have a bottle, then a sock loaded with coins and keys, or an ashtray, etc. can serve the same purpose.

I generally keep a shirt and my pants nearby, loaded with all my pocket gear (knife, light, keys and wallet).

Hmm. Interesting question. After using all the locks available, I just have a pocket knife of whatever variety I'm carrying, usually a spyderco of some kind, as well as my wallet, keys with a microlight and phone. Mainly, however, to have everything I need gathered together to avoid forgetting anything.

The subject of what was safe to travel on a plane with came up a while ago. I think it was in W&SS.

Anyway, when reading the thread I happened to be traveling on business. I did a pocket dump and took this pic on the nightstand of the hotel room:

:p

I no longer own the Saturn, that phone, the Mag light, or the etrex GPS. My hotel nightstand pile is about the same when traveling by plane. Phone, flashlight, lighter, keys, small multi-tool, pen, and if checking a bag, a Wenger SI SAK.

The snaps are metal, and yes, it's padded. It also has some nice small pockets that you can put your ring(s) in. Simple, but well thought out piece of gear.

Thanks all for the feedback and comments guys, and the accessory ideas from Sid & Sodak are really interesting; maybe somebody should come up with a simple folder that could have a tray that would fold out of that, yet still hold an I-pad, keys, etc zipped inside. Come to think about it I have some veggie tan leather that might turn into a cool project.
The one comment I didn't quite understand came from mnblade when he said: "...if I don't have a bottle....
Why wouldn't you have a beer bottle? Canned beer is only for the woods..;)

Work iPhone, Galaxy Note 2, Focusrite Forte -> a pair of Genelec 6010a. Sennheiser HD25 and various IEMs. Ceramic neck knife.

When I can't travel with a firearm, I find a small bottle of Everclear and a lighter a handy improvised weapons system. And if I don't use it on the trip, I eventually use it.

Unfortunately I spend far more time than I'd really like. Nightstand stuff is always the same, my SIG 239 carry gun, a bright flashlight, usually a SF U2 ultra and my cellphone

When traveling to places where my Smith and Wesson revolver is not welcome, I keep my blackthorn stick by the bedside. I usually take the heavier one when traveling. From left to right; maple, blackthorn, hickory, hornbeam, and another blackthorn. The one on the right is my 'war' stick. Very heavy duty. The lighter ones in the middle are my city sticks. Still dangerous though.
