Once a knife is on my mental "safe list" it is safe from selling or trading and I give myself the OK to carry it. The marks are character marks then, and one day my kids will have these knives on my "safe list." They might like dad's old scratched up knives, well at least I hope they will.

I'm not sure if I'm making any sense..........but heres my "safe list."

SAK Midnight Manager 2 ............ (a great little SAK)
Spyderco Spin.................... (very thin VG-10 full flat ground blade ='s folding razor blade)
Spyderco SE Mili...................... (its a pocket chainsaw :D )
Spyderco SE Caly3............... (think smaller pocket chainsaw..........:D)
Spyderco Smurf bone Yojimbo......... (what else would you use to kill Umpa Lumpas?)
Strider SNG Tanto with Hinderer Button........... (nice strong and light beater knife)
CRK Large Classic Micarta CE Sebbie........... (can go from work to play and still feel at home)
Rick Hinderer XM 18 Spanto nonflipper.............. (Think this is what the baby would be if a Tanto SNG and a Large Micarta Sebbie had one :D)
Kirby Lambert Whar........... (great for the everyday grind )

Thats it for my "safe list" for now!

Whats on your "safe list?" Please do not list every knife you own, just the ones that you know you will never let go of. Might be dad's old pen knife, to your BM 635.........or maybe a few SAKs.

Pictures are more than welcome. :D

All my current custom knives are on my safe list! (As well as the incoming Yuna & Dog Paws Sebbie.) None of these are up for trade!! I buy some custom knives WITH the intent to either keep or trade. All the ones that I had intended to sell or trade are all sold/ traded off.

Here are some of my "Keepers", I'm going to skip my old scout knives or family knives. This list is only knives that I've bought and use.

Atwood folders- Just to nice to use and carry (all four of them)
BM705M2CF Forum knife- just a great knife carries like a dream with or without clip
Small Sebenza- don't think I can say any more that hasn't been said
Sm Limited Seb- a dream knife the first time I saw it. Plus I got a Damscus blade to go with it's BG-42 blade
Spyderco Calypso ZDP/CF - just cuts everything I throw in front of it. in fat I've got a bunch of different Caly's and I love em all
Spyderco Mouse - just one of the greatest small knives out there.
CRK Mnandi w/ snakewood- great edc and dress knife
CRK Umfaan - I was lucky to get one and it's a so much fun
Busse OJ Game Warden- I've beat the poop out of it and just keeps working. Got's to respect that. Plus I had a great sheath made for it that carries a flashlight to go with it, wicked useful combo.

I'm sure I have more to add but this is what's out and been used in the last few weeks. Knives that make my safe list usually are the ones that get sharpened and used the most. Those knives that I'm not sure if they are really keepers usually stay in my case. Besides I usually know if it's a real keeper in the first few weeks of owning it.

I won't ever get rid of my Benchcmade Stryker, it rode in my pocket for a looong time and was once used to cut a seatbelt in a flipped over jeep on the side of the freeway, to help save a life.

I like my Super CQC-7 and my Commander so much, I can't decide which is better but I won't ever get rid of them. The Karambits I'm still trying to decide if they're keepers....

All of them. I almost never part with a knife willingly, even if I bought it to give as a gift. Even the ones I decide I don't like get kept forever. After all, tastes change. I'm carrying knives now that I had put away for years because I didn't like them then.

I'll never trade or sell any of my knives, except for a dozen or so duplicates I purchased for future trading. So that makes about 300 knives on my "safe list"; I'm sure you don't want a complete list. :)

Everything except the cheapos like Moras are on my safe list. I buy blades to keep them and use them. If there's a chance I might not like it and that I might sell it or trade it, I won't buy it in the first place. :)

I am afraid, I would have to say, All of them. Since 1968, I don't think I have ever sold a knife. I have kept them all, except some I have given away. My safe list is in my signature line.

Strider AR Bro knife
Zero " White Lightning" fixed blade
Rinaldi Matrix
Blackwood Henchman satin D2 with CF scales.
Folts Baby Bear
Simonich Urban Raven
Simonich Crowfoot
Case Seahorse Whittler
AlMar Osprey.
Strider PT ( I could not get along without it ).

These knife while special in themselves , each have a special meaning/story attached that will forbid me from ever letting go of them. But each of them gets used.

I admire that some can put all their knives on the "safe list." Seems like for every 15 I try, 14 get culled out.

So-Lo - great idea for a thread. This is something that I've thought about over the years, especially for family heirlooms (the stuff I hide when we travel.) For me, my safe list is:

An old WWII TL-29, and a Robeson cutlery Stockman knife w/aluminum scales, both of which my mom's dad carried for years. Then, I have a Schrade Rigger's knife that my dad gave his dad, that was found in my grandfather's toolbox right after he died. That knife is seriously worn out. (I wish it could talk). Then, a Case Stockman my dad gave me years ago, and a re-bladed Case Trapper I acquired in a trade back in High School; I can't imagine kids trading knives in school these days.

Lastly, I have a SAK Huntsman that I found 15+ years ago, that I rescaled with Philippine mahogany. I had just decided to retire that one when I found another one this year. I figure since I found them both, I'll keep'em and give them to my son one day (along with the others, of course.)

thx - cpr

Most of my knives I plan to keep.

I buy knives because I want them for myself, not to turn over.

Most of my knives I don't mind using but there are some that are so nice looking that I don't use them.
