What's out there in the world of seriously abusable folders?

Hey, thought this would be fun... let's talk about folders you can and/or have really abuse(d).

Right now my designated abuse folder is an Outdoor Edge Kit Carson Zytel Magna - one of the strongest liner-locks i've seen, and cheap enough that i'm not actually afraid to abuse it... (as I might be with say... a $170 Emerson Commander or a $140 Benchmade 710HS

but, ignoring price, what's out there in the way of TOUGH folders?

the only ones I really know of are:
Most any Emerson
My Magna
TOPS CQT 747 MAGNUM
Benchmade 710HS

tell me more!

Add Buck Strider folders to your list and the SERE 2000. Though, I just got a pic of a SERE 2000 beside a Strider AR, and there really is no comparison. Jusdging from pics anyways, but if I wanted an abusable folder and money was no object, I think I'd be getting a Strider AR! The Buck versions look good too.

Depending on what you mean by abuse ... the Sebenza. If you aren't comfortable with slamming that much money against a wall, try a Buck Strider. This knife is not only built tough, it holds a wicked edge. I've abused mine on knotty, fibrous wood, and it hardly needs sharpening. I've got the spearpoint, but I'm sure the tanto is just as strong.

As far as Benchmade goes, I would trust my 730 Ares. Very comfortable and secure grip, great lockup, excellent sharp and durable edge. I also beat up on my BM 975, the long black semiserrated Emerson CQC7 version they put out before Ernie opened up his own factory.

Now, Spyderco has some tough knives. Have you seen the Chinook up close? I don't know how you could damage that knife. Or the Gunting.

The TOPS CQT 747 Magnum and Strider AR would be my choices for though folders. I would think the Pocket Hobbit from REKAT would be pretty tough as well.

Hmmm. Really strong, not expensive? Sounds like my Gerber Gator in ATS-34. Nice flat ground drop point mid-lock.

Very interesting thread which could be even more interesting with a dollar qualifier.

Sebbies are very very tough folders, but they also cost quite a lot. ($300-$400?) Buck Strider is better toughness for money, I think, being as tough but only about $125.

My Endura with ATS-55 is probably the most abused folder in my collection right now and it has held up quite well. It cuts fishing line, whittles wood, chops through chicken bones and was used once to open a can of soda when the tab broke. Just punched through 2 holes on the top, one bigger than the other. A little bit of dulling, but no chips and everything could be fixed up with the Sharpmaker. It was about US$40 (s&h not included) during a sale on Cumberland Cutlery (I think).

Yeah, I would have mentioned the OE Magna too. Have you seen the version with the aluminum scales? It's bomb proof. The same models always get mentioned in these built - like - a - tank threads: Strider, Sere 2K, Sebenza, etc. I can definitely vouch for the Sere. That is a knife that was born to be abused.

I would have to vote for the BM AFCK. I bought one of the first runs about 7 1/2 years ago, and have loved it ever since. I have literally done more things with, and to, that knife than to any of my others combined. The G-10 handle is starting to fade and I've broken about 1/2 an inch off of the point, but it is still going strong, and the lock-up is incredible.

I would say the ultimate abusable folders are the Strider AR and Strider GB. But, my pick for tough abusable production folders are:

Buck Strider
Spyderco Chinook
Outdoor Edge Magna
Benchmade Pinnacle
Microtech L.C.C.

The list cannot be complete without including the Chris Reeve Sebenza.

I had a Gerber E-Z Out w/ ATS-34 when they first came out that I really abused at work (I once used it to pry open a small manhole cover). That sucker could take some punishment. I don't usually go for the lower end production knives (E-Z Out runs about $35), but I damn near cried when I lost that one down a well. Couldn't even get it out with an industrial magnet on a string. :(

Pretty much any Emersons, the Sebenza, the Camillus EDC, and of course any Strider! I have the mini version of the buck strider. It is awesome! The only thing that worries me is that the liner flexes a little bit. However, I have spine wacked and chopped the hell out of the thing and no failure yet.

On a restless night, I used my BM722 to try and "cut" the cap off of a bottle beer. It didn't work, but I'm not sure how good my aim was at that point in the night. I suppose I should just be thankful I didn't cut the hand holding the bottle... Aside from a little burr on the edge, no damage.
