Some comments on another thread about hootch caused me to cogitate on the fact that I no longer ingest any recreational intoxicants. That led to remembering a comedy line from back in the fog:

"I'm high on the real thing....a clean windshield, a full tank of gas, and a shoeshine!"

Any of you buzzards remember where that was from? :D I *think* I do. ;)

No one tried an answer yet????

Is it cuz no one wants everyone thinking they used to burn one and sit down and laff 'til they peed at these hilarious hippie-era comedy albums? ;)

I guess tomorrow I'll have to jog yer memories if no one guesses by then.

I don't recognize it but given your rather broad hint it has to be either Firesign Theater or Zappa... ???

Bingo, Dave! Thanks! Firesign Theater it is. hehe, I really loved listening to those albums back then. I don't remember the "track" for sure, cuz it is sorta foggy  , but I think it's "Climate Controlled Car".

roughedges, sorry, no, it wasn't C&C but I have most of their movies memorized.I loved 'em. I will always have fond memories of C&C because my pops, who was an ardent anti-drug kinda guy, still absolutely loved watching their movies. Nancy and me and my Pa spent many hours laffing our arses off to Cheech and Chong. I hear they may be making a new movie......

Anybody has any "remaining memories" about Firesign I'd love to hear those. Some of their lines are standards in my repertoire, like "I think we're ALL Bozos on this bus." "Out of the fog, and into the smog, comes Private Nick Danger, Third Eye." "How can you be two places at once when you're really not anywhwre at all?"

Dave, you know Frank's "Overnite Sensation"? Love the lyrics..... hehehe

Overnight Sensation is proof that you don't need to use any profanity to put out a filthy rock song. Dynamo Hum is probably the filthiest song ever recorded and has no obscenities.

Her sister made her do it!

Flora and Fauna..... they wanna! :D

Quite an interesting man Frank Zappa was......

Fitz, I think that first line was stolen from "Ozzie and Harriet". By the time Fireside came on I was to far gone to remember what was said......

Now that's interesting, Ray. Thanks for that tidbit.... :)

Kiss my aura, Dora
Its real angora....

Got her legs in the air
An' asked if she had any cooties on there

(Whaddya mean cooties! No cooties on me!)

I think Zappa was one of the great poets of the 20th century.

As Zappa's body of work is better understood with the passing of the years he will be more appreciated for the genius he was, IMO. Others' mileage will vary, but I am way impressed with the man. :)

Great googledee-mooglee.

Any one that actually uses the word 'Cogitate' hasn't been all the long from burning one. I won't deny I inhaled - often. Any more I'd lock myself in a room paranoid the cops would instantly know and bust my door down with a no knock warrant.....
Those were the good old days...

Shucks, busted! :( I just KNEW I should have used "ruminate" instead! ;) :D

Actually, though, I was being honest: no more recreational drugs. I find it very ironic that I have this perscription for a substantial dose of narcotic painkillers every day and I don't take but 1-2 of those even, usually. Most days I just try and find other ways to deal with the pain. Those who know me best can only say, "My, has he changed." ;) :D

Like you guys really wanted to know that....LOL.

I guess I must have lived a sheltered life. Back in the 60's I lived in a dry county, and would go to the local bootleger's house for a six-pack, or some home-grown shine. ($2.00 a quart fruit-jar full) He had one of those rubber "service-station" bells stretched across his circle drive. Came to the door with a big cowboy hat on........$2.65 for a six pack of beer......... $2.00 for a pint of "Thunderbird"........ Those were the days.

I somehow, (lucky I guess) never knew much about smokin' rope. Never did it, never knew anybody that did until I went in the Air Force in '66. There were a few guys in my outfit that thought it was so cool....... Never interested me.

Maybe now, (I'll be 58 Tuesday) I need to throw these cigarettes of 40 years away, and try a little "rope"........Nah, too old and set in my ways.

Rambled enough.............. Robert

The funny thing about Zappa is that he did it all without drugs. His message never changed, especially about hard drugs.

He was quoted back in the early '70s as saying that "speed is the drug to do if you want to turn out just like your parents."

If you decide to make the leap to trying to quit the ciggies, Robert, all I can promise you is that within you is the willpower to pull it off. If I can do it, anyone can...I'm still chewing the gum but it's been 6 months plus, now, without a puff. I don't really miss it any more than all the other crappo I pumped into my body for all those years and then suddenly just quit.

Comes a time when we have to do everything we can to help the doctors do their job.

Unfortunately, I encountered Hunter Thompson & Leary first and not Zappa.... ;)

Yeah, I had a long involvement with the likes of Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters before Zappa. It wouldn't have made any difference-I had to do my allotted amount of self-medication, anyway.

"Better living through chemistry" has been the motto of my life on several levels, it seems..... :D Provided me my fun, my job, and now it's keeping me alive. For better or worse, I accept the consequences of my decisions. I ain't complaining....

Hope you had a good day, Steve. HBD2U!!! :)

This is good stuff, sure brings back memories...sort of. I had no idea we had so many children of the 60s and 70s in here.

This is weird, but somehow Firesign Theater and the David Carradine show Kung Fu are mixed together in my nostalgia. Not to mention black light and patchouly. Must've been an interesting house... :D
