What's the appeal of the Manix?

So from what I've picked up, alot of people really like the Manix and/or are keeping their eye out for one. I've seen the pictures of it, read the specs, it seems like a nice knife, but I'm just not sure why so many people are after one? Or am is it just a case where the desire for the knife is overplayed in my head? :P To me it just seems like everyone wants to get their hands on one.

I like the wide blade that stays razor sharp, comfortable grip and super strong lock.

+1 for mmarkh.

I suspect a lot of the appeal at the moment is because the Manix is discontinued. And the new Manix is not really a Manix at all, but a smaller, much different knife.

The Manix is a really big knife. I didn't carry it much at first because it was difficult to get my hand in that pocket without scraping on the sharp jimping. But once I smoothed out the jimping, the Manix became much more comfortable.

This knife is big and strong and an exceptionally great cutter. I don't think it has a peer -- at least in the production world.

you need to handle one. then decide for yourself.

i put off buying one, then found out it was disco'd. i was bummed! pulled the trigger finally. got her and then at that moment realized that i had found my tank folder! the manix has to be handled to be appreciated.

secondary market prices are high, $120-$200, thus out of reach for some. not many being sold now days. if you decide to get one, good hunting.

some manix pron....

I've owned a Manix and a Mini. The ergos is fantastic. But I think the main appeal of it at this point is that it's becoming somewhat of a collectors item.

I'd say, besides aa Ti ATR, the FG and normal Manixes (Manixi?) are the most sought after spydercos of today. There is just something about the overall look and design of the knife that makes me drool, even though i still havent thrown down for one :(. Will have one though!

For me the main appeal is the blade, wide and FFG, gets really sharp. The handle is also very nice, especially on the large model, you really have a good grip.
My only turn-down is the lockback, I am not a fan of the system, but on the Manix it is bomb-proof.

Ironically, because it was discontinued, a local store sold it to me for a discount :D I might have paid more :D

Try the Chinook.

I recently traded my Mini Manix.

It's a nice knife, but I had too many black G10 handled knives and preferred to keep my Spyderco Military, Buck Strider Tarani, Benchmade 710, and Emerson CQC-13 -- all of which got much more pocket time.
