What's the best and fastest way to repair a flat tyre?

I had the unfortunate experience of replacing a flat tyre recently.
It wasn't that difficult but I thought surely in this day of great modern advancement and technology, there must be faster ways of fixing a flat tyre.

There are various types of jacks being sold in the market now. In fact, there are even special "pump-in" foam cans that will inflate the tyre sufficiently for a motorist to make his way to the nearest mechanic.

But what is the fastest and easiest way without involving too much sweat on the part of the car owner?

I've used the spray-cans several times with good results. The only time it didn't work was when I had a large gash in the sidewall.

The jacks supplied with most cars are awful; you'd do better to get one of the nice after-market items available. Likewise, the standard lug-wrenches are pretty poor; one of the larger 4-lug wrenches are much easier to use, and you can spin em'.

I would recommend against using a spray-can solution. If you use it, it will be impossible to patch the tire later. You can also ruin your wheel.

Griot's Garage sells a plug kit for nail punctures in the tread. Otherwise, use that spare or run-flat or roadside assistance. :D

My Z06 has no spare tire. GM decided to pack a can of fix-a-flat and a small compressor into one of the trunk wells...

As jmx mentioned, call AAA, their service is outstanding :)

my 'vette has the best solution, goodyear extended mobility tires(EMT)(P285/40ZR17 in the rear, and P245/40ZR17 in the front), or run flats, they can have zero pressure and ya cant even feel it, no shimmy/etc, at least up to 70 or so. pretty darned neat.

of course they run $400+ a tire, but its worth it sometimes lol.

i thought they were gonna start using more run flats but i dont seem to see them mentioned as much as in the late 90's, so i dont know, they are pretty high.

but no flats, lol!!

I'm glad I read these posts before going on a 5-hour road trip today. Not being sure about the roadside assistance service of my cell provider and my vehicle insurance company, I decided to join AAA through their website. Got a membership number right there and then. Better peace of mind, I think.

Just got my first car a week and a half ago, and already had my first flat. :o It must have been a slow flat, cause when I got home 11:05 last night it was fine, but when I went to go to Shop Rite this morning it was completely flat. :grumpy:

My dad told me how to do it, and I got the donut on in a few minutes. I didn't find the jack that came with the car to be of poor quality at all. It seemed to work very well and only took a minute to get the car up to good height.
