I carry UDAP. The founder personally survived a grizz attack, then went to work for a company that made bear spray and realized that product just wasn't good enough so he went into business for himself.
Can of Hornet blaster and a BIC lighter; Flame thrower. I worked in Prov Parks in central B.C. for 2 years and routinely had to chase off nuisance black bears. As long as they don't sense fear from you and you smack them soundly across the nose or backside with a sledge hammer handle (that's what I used) they quickly make tracks for elsewhere. Single greatest threat for you is to exhibit fear in their presence. Best off is to just pretend they are a large shaggy dog! Very very rare to be attacked by a black bear.
Grizzlies is a whole other game. Get up a tree and fast.
