Probably depends on the manager or if it's a franchise esp, but overall, with my sample of 1 area, Books A Million came out on top over both Barnes & Noble and also Borders. The area is Northern Virginia, part of DC metro. Books A Million in Reston had all 3 titles, Blade, KI and Tactical Knives. Barnes and Noble had 2, Borders 1 or none.

Key here is that Consumer Reports ranked Books a Million ahead of the others for your basic book buying too (cheaper prices, no fighting for chairs). What book stores in your area have been carrying the main 3 knife magazines? 2? 1? Share your experiences? btw, is Cold Steel really that much better than Spyderco? ;) ::: ducking:::

I went looking for some knife mags a while ago and couldn't find any on the shelves of my local B&N to evaluate. What titles should I be looking for? Maybe I will have more luck finding them online.

There is also Guns & Knives which, obviously, isn't just knives. Look for the knife periodicals next to gun/hunting magazines. Maybe they are there, maybe not. If they are, good chance you will have to go digging. But, checking out all of your local main chain book stores or calling them to save the trip can be eye opening. My trip to the Reston Books a Million revealed some companies I hadn't heard of before.

I have found Blade magazine and Tactical Knives (something like that) at Barnes and Noble here in Denver.

Barnes and Noble seems to carry all of the ones I know of Blade, Tactical Knives and Knives Illistrated but Borders only seems to carry KI at least the one I go to.

my Books-a-million carrys all three also we just got a B&N but I haven't checked for knife magazines yet but I like the layout In B-a-M better the B&N

Barnes & Noble is about the only place I've seen them in any quantity, but as you know, their magazine racks tend to be more of a library. Often, the few of any popular magazines left are dog-eared and battered unless you're there early enough to get a pristine copy.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's experienced it, but there are people who look at you as though you're some kind of a perv if you show an interest in guns or knives. This wouldn't have been the case 50 years ago, but now some of the same folks that will regard you as a miscreant don't even blink if someone comes in and wants pornography.

Smaller bookstore chains are your best bets.
