Either my $20 Kelly Perfect or the current project Small Double Bit Kelly Works Woodslasher for 3$.

I got a hatchet head for 50cents, it turned out to be made in China but was extremely hard and made the perfect kindling splitter to give my brother for Christmas.
And these aren't axes, but I got a 20oz craftsman hammertooth framer, a 20oz Vaughan 999ml , and a 1.5lb germantown machinist hammer all for 1$ each and a chrome vanadium craftsman 14oz ball peen for 2$.

Lots of "good deals" over years of looking, But my 1942 Sager Chemical 2.2 cruiser for $20 is one of my favorites!

old cruiser head turn polaski in the distant past for $10

or JF richards for under $20 if i remember

Got a couple of Gransfors one day, a 3.5 pound single bit for $6 and a 2.5 pound cruiser for $7.

Definitely my $20 legitimus seagrave pattern, even had the original handle. Still have the head, haven't had any luck selling it cause the stamp is pretty worn, but otherwise in great shape. Also picked up another seagrave off eBay awhile back for $50, not as good of a deal but it was a 6lb excellent condition, that one sold easily. Funny how people really only care about the stamp, granted there is plenty to positively identify the first one, just doesn't look as pretty as a full stamp.

Most of my axes I bought over 20 years ago. Not as many people into old axes then. I bought a lot of nice heads for less than $10. My two favorites are the NOS Witherell for $40 and the Peavey Hudson Bay for $29.

Black raven double for $15 at a local consignment shop. I ran out to my car to get the cash and felt like i was stealing it!

$5 Kelly hand made, $1 norlund voyager, $2 norlund tomahawk, $5 Collins and Co Kentucky pattern, $5 true temper flint edge "best axe made" CT pattern. I don't pay over $10 for any of my axes.

I picked up an old True Temper with a busted handle for $5 + shipping on ebay once. Took a fair bit of work to clean the eye out and wire brush the rust off and re-profile the poor abused edge, but it was a great axe when I was finished. That fall I used it to turn a 100+ foot cedar tree with a 2 foot wide base into firewood, and it handled even the biggest round.

I'll play. I don't know if this is the best deal I have found but - TT Hudson Bay deal, Evansville Pulaski, and a Firestone Supreme boy's axe:

$16

Nice! I need more axes like I need a hole in the head but were I in your shoes at the time I wouldn't have dickered with the vendor either! For that kind of scratch you can set out to salt all of your neighbours, relatives and friends with refurbished tools. Or upgrade the hand-me-downs that get heavily used at the annual hunt camp.

That is actually where most of my restored tools have gone 300six. For the last several years my family has instituted a no more than $30 on gifts for one another at the holidays - kids are the exception of course. This works out pretty well with giving tools away to people who will use them.

That guy also had some climbing gear (I don't know what to look for to buy something like that used) and all sorts of rusted up drag chain, swamping hooks, and choker chains, and some things not readily identifiable laid out in his yard.

I had $22 cash on me at the time. It worked out well, at least on my end - haven't found bonanza quite like that since. The Central/Southern Oregon coast seems like it harbors more stuff like that than up the mountain here.

Anyway, not any wild collectible stuff by any means but they did clean up nice for user tools.

I too don't need any more axes than I have.
