Whats the best kitchen Spydie folder?

I'm thinking maybe the Military PE. I would use it for general kitchen chores. One reason I'd like a folder is that other people wouldn't likely use it. I also would like one I could throw in the dishwasher. Any thoughts??

How about a VG-10 Endura? As a lockback, it'd be less likely to disengage than a liner (probably not relevant, but one of my irrational fears). Also, it'd cost less.

OTOH, S30V is easier to sharpen and the Mili is bigger so it could handle bigger foodstuffs.

Wish I had a better answer. Would've recommend the S30V Native Lightweight, but I have a post about something odd with that.

Well, I think a flat-ground blade, at least 3.5", would be best. So here are a few candidates:

Military
G-10 Police (with flat-grind)
Calypso (the full-sized one)
Dyad (also full-sized)

Good luck,
Allen.

One of the characteristics of a kitchen knife is the fact that the blade edge is lower than the handle, giving you the ability to use the flat part of the edge for chopping. A profile like that is gonna be hard to find on any folder. But if I had to choose a folder for kitchen use it would probably be the Catcherman. Cheers.

I'm pretty sure that the various steels could handle the dishwasher, butt I wonder about the longterm effects of dishwashing detergent at high temps on micarta and G10 and anodized aluminum, specially colored.(powdering/drying/whitening/dulling) Also the pivot washers. I assume the knife would best be subjected to the dry cycle. Would it be best to run it through in the open or closed position? There is a lot of buffeting going on in there, so it seems it should be separated from other utensils if in the open condition.

Hmmm... Think I'll run a search on this question.

Oh yeah...The Chinese folder is a pretty good choice for slicing and spreading.

I use my GIN 1 Native in the kitchen all the time. The blade suffers a bit because it's not long enough but for peeling or slicing vegetables it does the job just fine.

I second the lum as a good kitchen knife. Great for cutting some veggies and fruits.
Also use my native for meats and the millie for all others.

It is not a folder but why not try the Perrin FB? You do not have to worry about ppl using it cause you can just slide it back into its sheath. It was desgined with food prep in mind. Ppl would not freak either cause it looks so much like a kitchen knife.
