I was thinking of those magnificent folders by SOG. Any recommendations?

The Flash series is pretty cool. If you want a really STOUT folder, the Tomcat/Tomcat II is the one to get.

I picked up two this week. One is the SOGWinder and the other is the Mini X-Ray Vision. Currently I'm carrying the SOGWinder. I've lusted over this knife for years and finally broke down and bought one. I love the look of it, very classy looking, the blade shape, and the rubber handles with steel bolsters. This thing locks up like a bank vault. My only complaint so far is that it's fitted so tightly, it is a little stiff to thumb open. Once it breaks in a little more it will undoubtedly become one of my all time favorites.

Bought the Mini X-Ray Vision more out of curiosity than anything. I've owned Benchmade Axis locks ever since they came out, and I wanted to see what SOG's version was like. It's every bit as good, if not better than the Axis lock, and the thing is smooth as silk right out of the packaging. Could take or leave the ATS-34 blade, since I've never had any problems with SOG's AUS-6 or AUS-8 blades, but it is a nice touch and gives it a little more "class". The Arc Locks "locks" stick out a little farther than I'm used to, and this is a very nice touch, making one finger opening and closing much easier. Although it is very wicked looking, I hope SOG adds some other designs to the blade on this knife. I'm kind of tired of the chisel/tanto style blades and much prefer the one on the SOGWinder.

All in all, these are great knives, and they've certainly made me a SOG convert. Already have two or three or four...etc more that I plan on buying in the immediate future. But as a SOG newbie, I can recommended either of the above knives. I think you would be more than happy with either.

I recently purchased the Mini X-ray vision and have to say it is a very smooth knife with a tight lock. Currently I'm going back and forth on the Twith or the Flash as my next folder.

There are very few SOG folders that I'm very fond of but I do like the Tomcat.

Has a nice 'heavy duty' feel to it. I have to admit thought that I do have trouble sharpening that recurve.

My first SOG folder was an AirSOG; I loved that little knife...:( past tense... I lost it in my attic while insulating...:grumpy:

Next was a Tomcat :D , since serrated and BC coated... then the Vision(s), then SATs...

Are you looking for an EDC? What do you intend to use it for?

I have been eyeing the Tomcat for quite a while. Is it good enough to be an EDC? Wouldn't be too bulky, would it?

I don't mind the bulk since I'm also used to carrying a Chinook.

The one thing that I find a bit of a drawback though is that it doesn't have a clip. It's sheath or pocket carry only.
