I don't even know if the Scout knife comes under traditional blades. But the Scout knife has been around for so long and so many generations that it must have a very rich history.

I am trying to find out which generation of Scout knife is considered the best.

Any recommendations?

I hope I'm thinking about the same type of knife that you're talking about. Is it one of the folding "boy scout," "camp" or "military issue" models?

If it is, I don't know much about the older generations but A.G. Russell has a modern-day version "scout" with an ATS-34 main blade. Sounds like this one could be a contender as one of the "best."

Edit: Oops, make that 154CM (not ATS-34)

Have to mention Victorinox Swiss Army knives in this category. Models such as the camper, climber, tinker, or explorer would be great scout knives.

In a pure traditional sense Camillus makes the
"best" scout knife and has continously for many
decades.

While there have been other scout knives Camillus
has produced both the "Civilian" & "Military"
version since WWII.

There was a short thread on the Boy Scout pattern some time ago (Traditional Knife of the Week).

The typical four bladed folder with main spear blade, screwdriver/cap-lifter, can-opener, reamer and shackle is very old, many were officially made por the Boy Scouts of America, the pattern is still very common, the SAKs (Soldier, Victorinox Spartan and a similar Wenger) The US millitary Demo, models by Case and Ka-bar and surely others.

There are also variations with three blades, with a liner lock, with six blades (reamer and corkscrew coming out of the back)

The current maker for BSA is Camillus, who also makes the Demo.

In the good old days, Cattaraugus, Imperial, Keen Kutter, Ulster and others.

It´s hard to say which is best, but I like the SAK soldier (or the Vic Farmer which adds a saw), and I used to have a six bladed Boker that was very good and very nice.

You can see some nice old BSA knives here:
