I just got a new anvil and it has a stake in the bottom. The last anvil i had i mounted to a stump and it was uneven and wobbled too much.

Whats the best way to mount this so it doesnt bounce/move around?

6x6 beams Bundled vertically?

Also what is the best height. I heard you use your arm length to determine this. Like your knuckles should rest flat on the face of the anvil

A West Texas tree stump like you're talking about building is more likely to be flat on the ends than an actual stump sawed with a chainsaw.

As for height, knuckle height is the old standard, set in the days when many blacksmiths had strikers swinging sledge hammers for them. If you're working on your own, I'd recommend setting it at wrist height. Lot less bending over and straining your back.

Just a whimsical name for the kind of anvil stump built up from dimensional lumber that you're contemplating. :)

No plans, but doing Google Image searches for "anvil stump" and "anvil stand" turns up a lot of different approaches. I like this guy's: https://lumenknives.wordpress.com/tag/anvil/ You could loosen off the nuts and wiggle around the 2"x4"s to compensate for unevenness in the floor/ground, then tighten back up.
