What's the best way to paint patterns on G10 scales?

is there dye that will brush on and stick? or use paint? the green G10 is too boring...
thanks

Yup, RIT dye works - sort of.

G10 is not very impervious, so it is hard to get the dye to penetrate. If you can remove the scales, heat up a pot of boiling water then remove from heat. With the dye mixed in, drop your scales in and let them soak for at least 15 minutes.

DISCLAIMER - don't use your wife's good pot, as the dye will stain it. ;)

the thing is I don't want to dye the whole thing, rather dye some part of it, like put a pattern on it, yeah I can try tape off some part, but is there any dye that I can just paint on the scale? like Tie-Dye Kit, would that work?

I think paint is going to be your only option if you want a pattern.

Been trying to figure out the same thing as I had an R2-D2 pattern planned and ready to go for a white RAT2 in D2 steel, was not trying to dye the whole knife or do a color pattern. The issue is, I am not sure what kind of paint would be most resillient on, not G10, but a similar material called Nylon 6 used in the scales of Ontario knives.

I was told this may be a hard process to get to stick, but I too would like to try it.

amazon sells Fabric Spray Dye, set by ironing, don't know if we paint/spray on G10, then use head gun, whether that will set the dye, just wondering

I’ve never tried this, so I can’t personally vouch. I’ve read that you can mask off the areas that you don’t want colored with white grease. Apply it on thickly with a brush. Then dip the scales in a simmering pot of Rit DyeMore dye to get the desired effect. After the desired tone is achieved, clean off the grease with mild detergent and warm water..
