What's the best way to secure a knife sheath to a duty belt?

Howdy!

I'm falling asleep as I speak, but I gotta ask this now before I forget.

I wear a nylon duty belt for work and I'm having a problem keeping my Leatherman WAVE from sliding around on my belt.
(I know what you're thinkin'... "What? You don't carry the LEATHERMAN MICRA on the job?!?!?" Well, that's right. It seems as if the HMFIC's in charge have heard how truly deadly the Micra is, so they don't allow me to carry it. They're gonna let me know if I can carry my full auto Uzi when it comes in tho!)

Anyways, the problem is that I wear the WAVE just aft of my holster, a Safariland SS III, and the danged WAVE keeps moving forward. I'm worried that it's gonna get jammed there at the wrong time, and I wanna secure it into place on the duty belt.

Electrical tape works for a few days, but then gets all gooey and moves anyhow.

Anyone else have this problem? Found a solution?
Thanks in advance!

PS - Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, a Chappy Channukah and a Kwazy Kwanza... wow, I AM tired... and that you're gonna have a great New Year!

Lil Velcro strips ya get at store...One on the belt and the other on the inside of the sheaths belt loop...

Wow!
That was fast!!

You're a smart duck, Duck!
I forgot all about the velcro inside of the belt... that oughta work fine, so long as the strip I put onto the sheath remains there...I'll send Missus G to the store tomorrow and see if that works!

Thanks much!!!

Hiya Ripper,
Ya posted as I was responding to Duck, so I missed ya....

Thanks for the belt keeper idea. I'm using them now, although only one of them between the holster and the sheath. I guess I could use multiples, but the thing is, due to the fact that I am somewhat gravitationally challenged, i.e. a chubster... well, I HAVE lost 65 pounds since moving here... but still... it's a long battle fighting anorexia, but I digress....
What I was getting at is the fact that the inner belt on my BDU's (a "normal" kind has to be pretty tight, as it cannot find my hips (yet!!) to anchor onto. When I put the duty belt on, with all the gizmos (pardon the techno-speak, please) it weighs a bunch.

But the belt being so tight makes jamming those belt keepers between the belt and my BDUs a real chore. Using MORE than the 4 I do now would make me late for work!
;)

Your suggestion's a great fix, if it weren't those 12 bazillion kegs of beer I drank back in the 90's!

Thanks just the same, I really appreciate it!

I try to be good for something ..;) ..I assume the sheath is either leather or nylon, eitherway a bit of stitching always worked for me to hold the velcro..Ripper has a good idea also..

Stitching!!!
Geeze why can't I think of simple solutions like other people?!?!?

I'm sitting here, trying to figure out a way to GLUE the velcro to the she...

Well, I'll make me feel better by pretending that I woulda thought of stitching the thing after the 12-57 attempts at GLUING it in place went wrong!

Thanks again, Duck!

(Yep, Ripper had a good idea.. I just missed his response while I was responding to yours... as you can see by my response to Ripper...
Arrgghh... I need sleep!
Thanks again!!!

VG,
I know what you mean about the about the beer. Duck's idea is a good one and should work work fine for you. If not , try making a keeper out of the velcro strip, just make it a size you can tighten down on your duty rig without going through your pants belt. Some of the old leather ones only worked that way (or maybe it was the beer).
Take care, Greg

VG,
I solved that problem on my tool belts by securing the pouches with small brass rivets. A better solution, and what I'm using from now on, are Kydex screws. They allow me to easily change the type of pouch depending on the job or reposition them if needed.

Later,
Hawk

VG,

Here's another idea for you...Can you sew-up the belt loop on the sheath a little bit to make it fit on your belt tighter? (If the sheath is leather, drill about 4 SMALL holes that you can then put some HEAVY-DUTY thread through.).

VG, have you gone soft since you left NJ? Just rivet that sucker to your hip bone on whichever side you carry it on and it's always there. Sheesh

I like Glockman's idea, but instead of stitching I use lace. That way I can adjust it if the leather stretches or I change to a different belt.

All these ideas will work -- it's a matter of picking the most convenient way. For me, that's adding lace to adjust the belt loop because once I get it adjusted it'll stay put, and yet I still have the option of readjusting in the future. YMMV.

I used to use duct tape.Probably work for the "gerbildude"It is really a nice touch when you use the red.:D :D :D

Vampurest,
I recommend a #10 sheet metal screw. Screw that sucker into the hip and it ain't going nowhere. Painful but pain is good. :)

All of those are great stop gap measures (I really like the nailgun). But for the long haul you might want to consider new duty gear. Biachi(sp) makes a system that needs no keepers. The under belt (garrison belt) and the duty belt (sam brown) velcro together. When they touch all of your gear is locked into place and will not slide even if you want it to. You can get the system in Nylon (what I used) or leather. I know its a little costly but not having a piece of gear EXACTLY were it is supposed to be (where it is when you train) can cost you your life. Just for the two belts in the AccuMold style cost me about $60, not much when you REALY think about it.

VG,

Mr. Clark is right! $60 is a lot less than you paid for Photoshop 6.0. Your safty is worth it. There are few Vampire Gerbils left in the world. You MUST be very careful...
