I took the lanyard off of my new Sebenza when I got it but now I want it back on but I can't tie the thing. I went to Chris's web site and printed out how he says to do it but I still can't:confused:. Can someone tell me an easier way? Thanks.

I use a scaffold knot on mine. I find it easier to tie and think it looks better.

Anyway here are some links to some lanyard and knot resources:

Think you might want to extend that offer to me too ? :D lol I went out and bought some really pretty cord to use on my socom elite when it arrives, but I've never been able to do a good job on my other knives.

No problem!

Your MT SE will probably arrive with a lanyard cord already tied. If you want to change it, just take it off carefully and you'll see how it was tied.

BTW, good luck with it. It's an incredible knife.

Good info on the different ways to tie lanyards, but it still comes down to practice, practice and practice!

wow bud i tie them all the time, but i cant even begin to describe how to do it - if i had a scanner could draw it, but dont - it is easy though once ya understand the principle, have put lanyards(fobs?) on some of my knives, some look good, some look crappy w/them just depends on the knife - the one it looks the best on is a CRKT point guard, but was hard to do as the hole wasnt big enough for the cord i used, but it looks/works great - on the other hand my BM AFCK looked 'dorky' w/1, imho lol

Speaking of lanyards, what cord diameter is good? 1mm? 2mm? I've seen some pretty cool-looking colours at www.rei.com but without examining the cords, won't know if they'll fit.

Thanks APM and Dennis for the great links. My almost non-existent spatial concepts aptitude really expresses itself loudly when it comes to tying knots. I have great difficulty doing it, and then immediately forget, once I get it.

Dennis, I too might give you a call one of these days asking for help. I bought two hanks of the red, silver, black cord from REI recently. Want to wrap the handles of my ArcLite and my Stiff KISS. My Sebenza came with a camouflage nylon sheath, and a noose lanyard beautifully tied in a green, gold, white, black cord. There's not doubt that the cord and sheath match well. But without the sheath, am not real fond of the lanyard colors. Also want to try tying lanyard nooses on several of my knives. The pics on the sites look good for teaching, so hopefully can master it using them.

Great post, IMO!

I got some real nice 3mm (at REI) and tied a scaffold knot on my Sebbie.

1st practice without the knife.
Lay out the cord in a flattened S, with most of the cord hanging off of the bottom of the S.
Pick it up in a bundle, flattening the S from top to bottom. Start by holding the bundle in your right hand and wrap with your left until you run out of room, then switch hands & jobs (please not the careful and tactical use of the ampersand!)
Wrap the longer end of the cord around the rest from left to right. To secure the end slip it thru the loop that is formed when you get near the end. Do the same thru the loop move with the end that didn't move, the top of the S. It should go in from the opposite side to look neat.
Oh, where does the knife fit in?
The knife goes in the top left loop of the S at the beginning of the operation :)
I hope this is understandable, it makes sense to me ;)
Fiddle with it, you'll see it start to form and there'll be no stopping you.

Next week: The "monkey fist"

Ebbtide out.

I use just one knot. The first knot, near the laynard hole is replaced by a tight, sturdy plastic tube about ½" long and tight enough to make the hole package inmobile.

The only knot I use is the one at the end in order to complete the loop.

This procedure gives me three advantages.
1. Easier to adjust the size, in order to suit one´s hand size.
2. A slimmer less bulkier look.
3. Easier to loosen the cord (just one knot).
