I'm looking to replace my edc and would like to try an axis lock. My current edc is the 630, and not quite for me. Would like something close in size. I just don't know enough about benchmade. So need help with what the biggest axis lock is available.

I may be mistaken but I believe the biggest axis locks only get to about 4" blade length, the 710 variants comes to mind immediately.

Sifu has a very similar lock ( many people consider it the same ) and is 5 inches.

The 710, 806 AFCK, and 805 TSEK approach 4". These are the biggest. The 710 has a thinner blade and shorter handle. Nothing over 4" yet.

No offense, but show me one person who thinks REKAT's Rolling Lock is the same as the Axis Lock, and I'll show you one incorrect individual.

The 420 Resistor is one of the biggest in the hand and the pocket I think. It is for sure the thickest one anyway.

the rolling lock and the axis lock are nothing at all alike, they are completely diff, to begin with the biggest diff in them is the rolling lock is junk and the axis lock is pretty good lol, if i wasnt collecting i would stay away from rekat knives in gen'l and sif in particular, they are very finicky (sifu in particular)and no one works on them now..........

as far as size the biggest axis i know of is the 806.

Thats the one. The 710 is for me. Finally found one that calls out. Simple design, and pure function.

Good choice friend :)

I myself have several Axis locks, and at one time had a Rolling lock, from BM themselves.

It was returned ASAP, I had no idea of the Rolling lock prior, but once i held it and seen how it engaged, i was less then assured, so back to the nest it went.
On a couple flips open it did not engage fully, not one of my axis's have done that at all.(Was a Mini-Ambush,cheap red box'r)

The 710 wont let you down imho, she's a work horse.

Is this a trick question? :o

They all look the same to me. :foot: :D

I'd guess the 806 for total length (open) though I'm not sure how much difference in the actual blade length there is between the 710 and 806. Not much probably... if memory serves me right, the 806's handle size is definately larger.

I don't carry my Sifu often, too big and can't be replaced, but I haven't had any lock problems. From the outside, it appears to be the same lock.

Godot, the guys are right, the locks are different. In the end, they vaguely work on the same principle -- having a pin block the top of the blade, actuated by a slide on the outside (the erstwhile cosmetic similarity you point out). But the way they accomplish this is different. More importantly, the guys are also right about the quality of execution, which is at least as important as how similar the designs are. Yours might be holding up fine, but quality problems are probablisitic: it's not that every rolling lock had problems, but compare the loads of problems that were being reported compared to how rare axis lock problems are reported. Also consider what happens when a spring breaks on a rolling lock, compared to axis lock.

Yep. I have a buddy whose hand is too big for the 710, but who loves the 806.

Anyone got some nice pics of the 710 for me to drool over while I wait to buy one?

Thanks everyone for the input. It really sorted it out for me.
