What's the current knife used by SEALS?

I understand that Seals use knives of certain lengths and these blades are non-reflective but that's about as far as my knowledge goes.

What knife do the Seals use currently? Or, do they pick their own knives?

To my knowledge, they use the SOG SEAL 200 knife because it is standardly issued to them. However, I'm sure that they could take along whatever knife they choose, should that be the case.

I believe that an "official" SEAL knife is named more for commercial purposes than anything... those guys could do you in with a pencil if needs be

BUt the SOG knife was named as the "offical knife for 2000, and then I heard that the teams switched over to Mission Ti knives, although I could be wrong! Several different manufacturers claim SEAL rights, but like you said, they most likely carry whatever the hell they like!

If Seals were carrying all the equipment manufacturers claim, they would drown on the way to their target.

How about the knife they use in BUD/S? The Cold Steel SRK. Or are they awarded another knife for completing the training?

I've seen pics of SEALs using SRK and SOG SEAL-Pup. Most operators don't seem to be knife people, some are and buy expensive gear, but many just use whatever's around.

So that means most just use Kabars since everyone is issued kabars anyways, right?

The ones I operated with in Korea back in 97 used the inexpensive ones that can be bought at the BX/PX, usually made by Cammilus. Kind of like the USMC fighting knife. Some had expensive knives, but none appeared to be issued. The reasoning for the cheap one was, it could be left without worry. The only other knife I know of that was issued, cause I got one was the Buck/Phobis M-9. Even now, most of us combat ready troops carry what we buy. The truth of the matter is that te SEALS can have whatever they want. If it has a NSN assigned to it than it is obtainable.
