I have a Case trapper, 6254SS, with the scrolled bolsters and "5th" in a circle on the front bolster. It has the shield with "September 2005 Case XX." This is supposed to be 1 of 20.

Here's the pic.

I've not been able to really find any info on these. The paperwork in the box is standard. Did Case make a certain number for each day of the year or something? Besides a little decoration, what makes this one special? What's special about Sept. 5th, 2005?

It does have beautiful fit and finish that I would put up against any Queen, S&M, or CSC (My one CSC isn't that great in the F&F department and my Cases kick it's butt) The blades are nice and sharp out of the box, and it has good springs, just strong enough, without being too strong.

But, what's the story behind these type knives?

Amos, these are done for shepherd hills by case (calendar series knives). They started it a few years ago. At first they were making 10 of each date of the calendar year (per month). But the demand was so great they started to make 20 per calendar year (one for each day of the month in a given year).

I myself have one from a couple years ago (when they were only making 10) that is in smooth chestnut bone.

The "fit and finish" are excellant on these. In fact I could not find a thing wrong with the two that I had.

Here is a sample of 2006:

Amos; They make good birthday gifts or for a gift that has any special day involved. I found out about them in time for the 2005 offering and have used them for gifts ever since in 2005, and 2006. There is supposed to be only 20 of each date which , of course means there could be 7300 produced for each year. Shepard Hills still had a few of random dates for prior years. In fact I was able to get my birth date for 2004 puchased in mid 2005.

Thanks, for the info guys, and the link. I hope they make them in 2007. Maybe I can get one for my 50th Birthday, for myself! ;)

The one I have is a beautiful knife.

Thanks again,
Amos

Interesting how after reading the info here and visiting the link to Shepherd Hills, which I actually had bookmarked in the past for another knife, I go the post office and find a Shepherd Hills catalog in the mail box. Hmmmm, is it some kind of sign?

The "sign" will come once you've opened the catalogue.
You will hear a small voice from each and every picture saying: "Buy me!!!"

I'm thinking the 8/24/06 for the 10th anniversary of my sweetie (high school sweetheart - 21 yrs later got back together). If I do, that one will get some carry. My wife thought it was a sweet idea. <g> Anything to get another knife right? ;) Okay, so I'm sappy and it would mean something to me too.:o :barf: :D

And yes, there are a lot of pretties in that catalog. Too many, in fact!
