What's the deal with LE prices on secondary market?

My data is anecdotal, but I have bought new and "used" LE wood wood inlays and sold the same for the past few years.

A little over a year ago, prices for second hand wood inlays where approximately $100 off new, It seems like this year the prices are more like $125 to $150 less then new maybe even more since the latest prices increase.

I'm NOT complaining, I'm just wondering why there's such a disparity in price between new and second hand and why the difference seems to be growing.

And certainly the new LE woods sell very quickly, it just seems weird to pay less for an LE wood then an micarta.

I had noticed that too, but it's not just CRK - all knives are the same ! Second hand prices are well down. It's a good time to buy, but obviously, an equally poor climate to sell in :(

Don't worry Dave, I would have no hesitation in stretching to $100 for your Sebenza

I've seen two go for the $400-$425 range in the past two months (had to snatch up one of those ;)). There's no doubt that they're selling low, and that this is the time to get one aftermarket if you've ever thought about it. To own a wood inlay for $75 more than retail on a plain regular or classic is a no-brainer, but like all things, we'll likely see the price offset change as they become more in demand or more people are buying again.

Professor.

When I see a used LE, without handling it I assume it may need a visit back to CRK to be in top condition. Also, I have yet to see a used LE sold with a wood and grain pattern that really speaks to me.

Seems like the price is dropping enough to... A LE beater?!? NO!

The figures and grain of the wood mean a lot in these, at least for me. That may be why some are being sold for so much less?

There was a curlymaple here on BF that went for $425, I think it was a lare even. There a fairly regular parade of them mayne one a month on KF.

I happened to notice there's one forsale right now here on the forums for a considerable discount. ;)

I already have it! It's mine, I'm selling and sending the proceeds to Katrina victims.

I'm just done seeing it :o I usually NEVER jump the gun !!

Anyway, that's a great cause and I hope it goes OK  If you were selling outside the US I'd jump on it, for sure

WTG, Dave! That’s extremely kind and generous of you.

But yeah… I think the whole secondary knife market is suffering for some reason. I’ve noticed different kinds of Sebenzas selling (or not selling, as the case may be) in the forums lately for less than expected. It also seems like there is a wide variety of knives on eBay that are selling low.
