What's the deal with Ritter Grips?

Are they limited-runs, special editions, or just popular enough that you can't ever find them in-stock as easily as the other variants?

They seem to be a bit more rare than the other versions of the Griptilian. Is it purely supply/demand because of their blade-shape or are there some different materials involved - I've seen the M4 model, but are all of the Ritters M4?

They are a knife works exclusive, and are usually in high demand, so availability of variants is hit or miss. The m4 versions are limited edition and are highly sought after, they're worth it though if you can find one at a reasonable price on the second hand market. Personally, I love the ritter blade shape, it's just an excellent slicer and all around good edc utility blade shape. It's just flat out an excellent knife, that can be made even more excellent with the addition of custom scales.

Here is my m4 mini with cuscadi cf micarta scales. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic.

Stronger (stout) tip, and a wider blade make it a overall better knife. There is a Ritter M4 mini grip for $140 on eBay right now, not a bad price. I'd pick it up if I didn't already have one.

That's actually a s30v model. I checked on knifeworks and they are in stock for $119. They must be new, i'm gonna make a new thread to let people know :)

KW got them in stock but the price went up 10 bucks since I bought my last one two months ago. Glad I got enough!

That's not the Ritter M4 (which was pretty rate), that's the limited edition from GPKnives:

To save you from having to email them to get the price, it's $104.95

Correct. It did actually last a few days. I had it on my watch list, just out of curiosity though, because you can save a lot of money buying direct

Oh duh. You guys are right. I though it was a Ritter blade for whatever reason. So the only M4 Ritters were the orange handle ones? Something like 73 made? Because I got one. :D

The most recent batch of m4 ritters were the orange handled ones with "cpm-m4" in an oval, there were 73 of those, and that's the batch mine came from as well. However, there was a previous batch of a few hundred (not exactly sure how many) in both mini and regular size variants with black handles. The orange handled batch were put together with blades left over from the earlier batch, hence the softer heat treat on the m4 ritters even though the most recent batch was put together after BM started using the harder heat treat.

I just ordered an Orange one from Howe's in S30V. I'd love to pick up some Cuscatti Carbon Fiber scales (I think those were the scales I saw on one).

Thanks for the info guys!

Gotcha, Thanks for the info.

There was a run of 250 M2 mini Ritters. Then a run of 500 M4 mini Ritters, they had black handles. Then a run of 73 M4 mini Ritters, which had orange handles.

Well I couldn't leave well enough alone, so I stripped/polished and Getto-Stonewashed the pocket-clip (using some rocks I found outside, a large pill-bottle, some soap.water, and a lot of hand-shaking/rolling/twirling) in an attempt to match the blade:

I'm still not 100% sure how I feel about this guy - I definitely like the Griptilian platform overall, but I just don't know if this one makes me want to leave the Orange Pardue in the safe or not yet. That being said, I do really think this is a very nice folder (and I'm debating on some Cuscadi CF scales as I type this).

I think you did a pretty damn good job on that clip for using what you had to work with. Good job, I'm impressed!

BTW, give the Ritter a little time, it's a better blade than the Pardue.

Well - I did leave out the fact that I have a dremel and some yellow polishing compound that took the Benchmade coating right off - then I moved on to the pill-bottle and rocks/soap/water.

It's funny - I took turns with my son shaking and rolling it around until we got the best result. I did a Spyderco Delica clip at the same time, but it didn't turn out as good.

The only problem with the ritter grips are the plastic scales. That is an expensive knife that does not feel expensive in the hand...

You need to take a ScotchBrite wheel to the screws and pivot, to match your clip. I just ordered 2 sets of Cuscadi grips for my 555's. The Mini is a great little knife, looking forward to getting a Ritter. Great job on the clip by the way!
