help a fairly new dude out.

the SFNO looks great and i'll be getting one for myself and all but what is it about this knife that causes such hysteria and such a cult following???

i understand its a different knife but is it that much better than the ASH-1??
i love the ASH-1.

and whats the SPECIAL FORCES {SF} in reference to??...i missed the story on that one.

thanks dudes

I enjoy my SFNOs:

But, I find myself more of an SJTAC fan:

The SF is a reference to the handle type. The HR also has the SF handle. (SFHR? Hmmmm. . . . Almost like a SHSJ. LOL)

Overall, it could be the best Busse made ever. The SF handle is nice - esp with hand-shaped handles. (Basically mags with the mag parts thinned out a bit.) It's got a thumb-divot on the spine and a nice big choil. Reminiscient of the BBSHSH but with the bigger modern choil. Balance is great. Bladeshape is perfect for camp work. It's just the bomb.

I've got 1. Probably will get one more. Gotta pick a color combo. Hoping they are sabre'd and CE'd.

I like my two--a custom and a flat ground.

I'm really only interested in another if the new ones are saber ground like the first run. From what I've been told, saber = more weight at the spine = better chopper.

i speak only of the saber ground version here: i love the looks, blade and handle shape, and thickness. seems like a perfect 7" blade. man i really need one, although not quite as bad as some of the rarer ones

How well do they chop? I honestly don't know, because I've never chopped with one.

it almost sounds like this is the busse version of the chopweiler.is that safe to say???

is it about the same over all length???

SFNO's are perfect midsized blade's

Aesthetically very pleasing to the eye, because of the bladeshape and blade/handle ratio:thumbup:

The best looking are the DC finished sabregrinds with magnum handles in my opinion.

I have a user flatgrind and it can chop realy well. I don't have chopping pics around but here are some other pictures...

They're great throwers too: http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=mb9U2REikY4

Great pics, Crafft! Thanks. I wish I could take pics like those. I'm normally not into midsized knives, but the SFNOs do interest me...

The question for me is. Will there be competition finish SFNOs?

I hope not. :foot: YMMV

Can someone who knows, run down what versions of the SFNO have been available? Thicknesses, grinds, etc. On Busse Collector there is a CG that is Flat Ground and 0.22" thick. Was this the second offering? I know the Customganzaa had a bunch of custom SFNO's....

The standard sabre outlaws are 0.22" and there was a special offering of the company store. They had fat outlaws and where 0.27" thick. The sabre's are the best outlaws ever made. I don't like the new ones.

So were the fat outlaws at the company store full flat ground? The picture on Busse Collector looks to be flat not Sabre ground but it's not the best picture. Thanks for your response!

I have a Sabre ground, and I LOVE It. One of my first Busse's and possibly my favorite. I used to have two but sold one, then bought a flat ground custom and I couldnt see using it over my Original Sabre so I sold that. The weight in the front of the blade makes it a great chopper for the size, the blade shape, handle shape and just the whole thing make it a fantastic knife IMHO.

Alot of outlaw owners didn't know that they had fatties. There are still some out there which I know of. I know for at least 12 guys who have a fatty outlaw and it don't suprise me if there are more outthere. The fatties are only sabre grind and had only magnum scales, like the tiger scales and black scales. The coating for the fatties is only black if I remember correct.

Personally, I DON'T like the "Dimple Finish" of "Competition Finish". - :barf: Horrible!!!!

But, I ABSOLUTELY prefer the Competition edges!!!!

I think it is/was/has been a shame that the only way to get a good "competition edge" has been with the major compromise of a horribly finished - "UN-Finished" blade. :barf:

I think competition edges should be STANDARD! (But, competition "Finish" should be discounted another $100+ )

Further, I think it is a shame that the only way to get a decent satin finish on many pieces of INFI is to pay WAY high LE prices at $200 - $330 upcharges  :thumbdn:

I can't get a decent satin finish with a decent edge at a reasonable price. :(

Satin finishes vs. CG shouldn't cost more than $20 - $40 at most more than CG depending on size. - IMO..... Based on the industry standard providing satin 99% of the time at WAY less prices.

Give me an SFNO with a satin finish (no Dimples) and a Competition Edge - ..... for under $300!!!! - PLEASE!!!! .... Feel free to leave off any "Numbers's" or "LE" tags if that brings satin down to reasonable and realistic.

.

If you scored a first-Ganza Squatch or other blade that was left over from Blade or whatever show it was, you got a hand-created zero-edge finish on that Squatch. They are the bomb.

The ones that came later that could be ordered (or maybe later-in-line folk on that Ganza - I forget how that all went), the edge wasn't done last and isn't as nice. Nice, but not Blade nice.

So if they are gonna hand-finish them last, I'll take an ugly CE. Otherwise, a plain old SFNO sabre-ground is fine with me.
