Whats The Deal With The LIONSPY?

I've been considering the LionSpy for my next Knife purchase. All the reviews I've seen though are giving it poor ratings mostly because of fit and finish issue's. Does anyone know if this is still an issue or has anyone purchased one recently and how was it?

I got one last year. High-quality piece. Quite wide with perhaps the thickest blade on a Spyderco. Initially, the lock bar is tight and needs a strong thumb to disengage.

There's a LionSpy Mini due out this year.

I owned one and also though that it was quite a high quality peice. Great fit and finish, beautiful convex edge from the facorty, SOLID lockup, and I dont know if RamZar would agree, but it made a really sweet noise when the lockbar engaged.

F&F on mine was great. Edge was a bit thick, but I've thinned it out a bit. One of the folders one can pry with and beat up with good conscience :D

I kind of miss mine now. I traded a strider sng lego striaght up for my lionspy, and felt itt blew the strider out of the water in EVERY SINGLE CATAGORY

I've got a LionSpy on the way. I'm shipping back the LionSteel aluminum handle knife due to fit and finish issues. I was hoping that Spyderco would insist in good fit and finish. I guess I will see when it arrives. Maybe I'm just to picky as I plan to carry the knife. But it seems to me that for the money the LionSteel and/or LionSpy ought to be free of fit and finish issues. Maybe I've been lucky with past purchases?

I think it looks awesome. Pretty substantial knife. I heard a couple of gripes but for the most part it seems people are pretty happy with them. The price is really the only thing that has held me back.

I'm sure others can probably address this better. I've only had the Lionsteel in my hand, and will have the LionSpy this coming Monday. Other than my hope that the fit and finish is better (probably will only boil down to luck of the draw), I am hoping it is easier to open using the famous Spyderco hole. My hands are small, and I can say it was and effort to open the LionSpy. It probably wouldn't be a problem for someone with larger hands. I'm hoping the LionSpy will be the best of both worlds.

I hope someone will follow up on your question who has had real experience with both versions.

Only complaints I have is the blade bevel was a tad obtuse - rebeveled to 30 degrees, its dangerous - I cut myself a number of times which hasn't happened in forever. The lock is a bit stiff, it is starting to loosen up. Fit and finish is great - I have absolutely no issues with the knife. It is probably the hardest use Spyderco I have, yet performs very well in cutting what needs cutting. My co-worker played around with it for a day and promptly purchased one.

Well here is where I'm at. If the LionSpy's fit and finish is good when I get to inspect it Monday, I will keep it. If not I've just received a ZT 0560. It is a beautiful knife with great F&F. The sculptured titanium scale on the ZT is very nice. I'm sure I wish I could keep both.

LionSpy just came in a few hours ago! I'm very happy F&F is great no problems whatsoever. I think this one definitely gets to stay in the collection.

I want one very badly, but it is way too big for my bitty hands and it a tad too heavy for my taste. If they made a smaller version, and the only way to get one was to go to the Spyderco Outlet, I would fly my butt all the way home to Golden just to snatch one up :D

The smaller version should be out sometime this year afaik...
