What's the deal with the new steel?

Hey sorry if this has already been covered, but what's up with the new steel that I read about briefly in the delivery dates thread? Is it slated to replace all 13C26 blades? What advantages does it have?

Thanks!

As I understand it, Kershaw will begin using a newer Sandvik because it has properties that allow for more control in the manufacturing process. Beyond that, IIRC, it is very much comprable to 13C26 and it will replace 13C26.

In a sentence, 14C28N will be a tad harder than we currently run 13C26, and will be much better with corrosion resistance.

Look for it's coming out party Jan. 2009.

bluegrasser12345, if you google 14C28N, you'll find a few dealers offering the CB Leek (1660CB) for sale with specs identifying the spine as 14C28N. Don't believe this. IIRC, the original Kershaw specs for the 1660CB stated 14C28N, but were actually made with 13C26.

Not tryin to stir the pot or imply anything good or bad about 13C26 or 14C28N, just wanting to give you a heads up when shopping on line...

good info to have brad. with all these sites having different things listed, its a good idea to mention the correct version so that people wont be misled/dissapointed by not getting the "new" steel.

13c26 still rocks period :D

Indeed. It takes a very keen and fine edge and holds up very well.
I'm looking forward to the new 14C28N.
Oh and lets not forget....Kershaw has exclusive rights to this new steel.

That exclusive rights deal is what excites me! A completely unique steel, much like Busse's INFI... :D

Whaa??? Exclusive??? I missed that part! Damn, now I gotta buy all new replacement knives for all the 13C26 blades I've got?

Yep, if ya want this steel, you have to be packing a Kershaw.

Gotta thank the Coach and Craig for there visit to Sandvic last year.

Yes, you can blame it on Craig. Remember, he did the Mr. Roboto
in front of them. I'm sure they gave Kershaw the deal just to get
him out.
:D

Thank you Kershaw!
Can't wait for the switch to go through.

Just confirming that Mr. Roboto paved the way for our development activities. And after Thomas and Craig caught a glimpse of our pretty secretary at the head office they made a huge volume commitment.

Thats how we roll.
