how come you dont hear about this knife that much. it seems like it should be in any sebenza, sng, xm18 convo. is it not the same quality or really rare? whats the deal?

I do not own one - but I do own the Kershaw JYD with SG2 steel and I think it's a great design.

Tims website states that he is pretty much a one man band and I do think that when he releases a batch of knives they are few in numbers and are gone quickly.

It is on my "buy one day" list - but there are so many knives on that list that are more readily available that it does fall near the bottom.

Uh-oh - just realized - the dreaded "666" post.

as far as i know i would say they simply are not made in the same quantity as the others you listed. you see even the hinderer on the sale forum often but i have seen few full custom jyds for sale anywhere.

The deal is that they are incredible knives at an incredible value. The Galyean Pro knives (all of them) show an incredible attention to detail and are much tighter and more smooth than the Kershaw Production versions. The edges are all radiused, the anodizing is extremely well executed, the stonewash is nice and bright and IKBS makes everything tight, smooth and free of any play. Tim does small runs to keep costs down, but, they are far from scarce right now. I wouldn't wait too long to pick one up on the secondary market though.... eventually they will find forever homes. They (especially the JYD model) are not for everyone, but they are a fantastic knife at a fantastic price.

ETA: IMO they are of a higher quality than the most of the competition the OP listed. There were some grind issues with the JYDs, but, nothing mojor.... the Galyean Pro Lahars blow all of the listed competition out of the water in the fit and finish department and, I would suspect, are every bit as tough (if not more so due to the large-ish pivot with IKBS).
