What's the difference between Tidioute and Northfield?

Yes, Tidioute, no frills. Northfield=frills galore. You get to decide how far you want to go. Brilliant marketing move IMO. Course you're gonna pay for it, the frills I mean.

Northfields generally carry a better final polish on the blade finish. They also generally have nickel-silver bolsters compared to some Tidioute models that have steel bolsters.

Basically the Northfields have a more refined final finish to them. Functionally they're equal. I guess you could say they're the Deluxe version of the same knife. They run about 10% higher in price than the same Tidioute model.

Some specific differences include handle materials. Ebony is typically Tidioute although there have been exceptions like the recent #81 stockman in African Blackwood. Cocobolo is typically Northfield although there was a run of #15 Boy's knives in Cocoa. Sambar stag is always on a Northfield-featured knife. Elk stag however is used on stainless knives.

The Northfields tend to be a bit more expensive and are better finished. I would choose Northfield everytime IF I could. Often the particular knife is not available in both. So, I buy what is available. I seldom look at the secondary market.

I like to think they Northfields are finished nicer, but to be honest, I tend to like the Tidioutes a little better as I'm not always for one with a fancy high polish..... I do like the stag models though.

Northfields look nice but I like and tend to carry a Tidioute if available in the same pattern.
