Okay, so someone clue in the clueless here. What's the difference between the Kershaw Speed bump and the Spec bump knives? I recognize that they are different sizes but that hardly accounts for the price differential. Is it just the difference in handle materials?

Blade steel.

Spec bump is S30V

Speed Bump is 13C26

S30V is more expensive, harder to heat treat, harder to machine.

I'm also guessing that the G-10 handle of the Spec-Bump is more expensive than the "plastic"/"rubber" handle of the (current) Speed-Bump.

Gotcha, so it's mostly a difference in materials pricing then? Makes sense.

I have a few bumps, and the G10 S30V model is by far the nicest, but if you can find the speed bump with the aluminum handle instead of the cheapo "akulon"(rubber), then I think you'll be much happier. Sure the steel isn't quite as good, but still comes sharp as hell out of the box and is a very nice knife.

Cheers,
Jon

Thanks for the tip, needless to say I'm thinking of picking up one or the other of these, but it's easier to buy a 60 dollar knife then a 120 dollar knife. Of course then I take a look at the offset...

Yes, the offset is one good looking knife, especially in G10 IMO, but even with that lighter handle material it is one Heavy Bastad!!! If you pick up one of those for EDC, you are going to be buying some suspenders, my friend!:D

I hadn't even checked the weight... I'll have to do that... :) That's a good excuse for not dropping that sort of money on a pocket knife. :)
