Hello, I got a Black 560 from an ex-Buck employee yesterday and it has a E stamped on the back of the Tang, can someone tell me what that means?

Thanks for your help,
Armand

Can you post a pic of both sides??? :)

Someone (probably 334dave) posted the codes some time back for Buck knives that were donated to missionaries, employee sales, rejects, etc...I can't find it, but I'm sure one of the pack rats here can...maybe even...Pack Rat!!! :D

IIRC, Buck simply ground off the Buck name on some of them...

"E" doesn't ring any bells here...

Well,,,,13 560's later,,,,not an "E" on the back tang of any of them, other than the Black one that Chuck Buck signed on the front of the blade and Elgin Thomas signed on the back of the blade. But I don't think that is the E in question.

Clueless here.... now off through the ebay sheets to figure out how the dickens I ended up with 13 of those things...:confused:

and I never paid any attention, but there are some of those 560 sheaths that are stamped 560, that are the both vertical and horizontal carry...

One of those sheaths was even stolen from Pat Pending. Her name on a sheath of all things.;)

and no,,,I don't have the missionary codes.

Thanks CT, I did talk to 334Dave about it today... They were sold to employees as a rejects or ??? ... I can't find anything wrong with it... I put it next to my other one... The Buck name and 560- is still there... :) ...

Thanks...

Ill try to post a picture of it later or tomorrow.... It's just a capitol E in the middle of the back Tang... The guy did work for buck... I bought the 560 with the blue holes from his dad... Well anyway I'm happy with it... :D

Thanks again,
Armand

I think in this case it means "experimental" or "experiment". If I remember correctly Buck did some fooling around with the powder coat on those knives. That is my best guess.

Hello All,

Here are a few pictures showing the "E" on the back of the blade and the 560- on the front ...

Thanks, Armand

Armand, you score the nicest stuff out there.... Say, how many Bucks are you up to ??

i think that it means it was sold as a employee sales only knife..
what later become FB ...
i have one with an E on it an i found a slight flaw in the polish..
the ones with gross flaws i belive were and still are donated as missionary knives.
Buck is ever always trying ways to keep flaws down
a E or a FB marked knife still is covered by warrenty i belive,,

I'm glad it's just a big E and not an FB... ... I'm not going to use it anyway, well I don't think I am! ! ;) ! I need to find a 560 sheath for it and one for my Blue hole one... Off to the bay I go... :grumpy:

omg ... no free ride...
well learn some thing every day...
but some days it it is not so easy learning

like
" Dave please stay in the lines"
" them R not N lines" -
" they R N their own lines.."
" I C them got Nice toys" -
" M R not toys.. can hurt you"
" toys R N store at end of your lines"

don't mater does it trax...
we did get us a free lunch didn't we?

Well,

For the slipjoints only, this is photo of Missionary knives. They are assembled of end run componets and are marked by simply grounding a notch in end of bolster. Does not effect use in the hands of the poor. I bought these before I knew what they were, Joe was very kind in his reply to my questions on them.

Notice the 301 has a shield on reverse and 310 has two scales with no shield.

Close-up of ground notch.

No notch then is may be a lunchbox special. I saw a couple of them with no notch on a certain auction site this past month. I am OK if someone one purchases one for a collection but I am a little disappointed in people who try to sell them with notches as a 'valuable' factory mistake.
But then again maybe they were like me and didn't know. What makes a buyer anymore holy than the seller ?
If the sellers address is in Idaho or WA it makes me pause to consider.
