What's the first thing you do when that triangular box shows up?
Received my 12" AK the other day. I opened the box, unwrapped the knife, and then ATTACKED THE BOX!!
This is my fourth khuk, but it always seems to go the same way. First thing I want to do is chop & cut on something, and.. "Oh look, here's an empty box..." LOL!
Am I the only one?

I don't chop up the boxes. I save a lot of them, saves a trip to the post office when I sell or trade one.;)

Me too. I usually step outside and go up in the woods and try it out. Usually sharpen first though.

I usually browse through the flyers and newspapers in the box. Sometimes there's a sale on in Reno that's kinda interesting.

After that I inspect the blade and sheath, and apply goop as needed.

Look for a pin, read the ads, save a few and chop the rest. At one point I told the wife I was only buying the knives because the boxes made good insulation in the attic...but she read an article on insulation, so that went out the window...

I swing at the air a few times, heft it, look at the fit and finish, imagine the kami making it and the journey it took to get to my living room. Then I carry it around the house while I'm doing odd jobs for awhile, to get to know it better. Each one has a bit of a personality.

Usually I drool a little. Then wipe my chin and clean up the blade, then sharpen it if needed. Then it's off to the woods to do battle with grapevines and fallen logs! :D

I chop wood for the test. Cutting boxes has no interest for me. I save them for future shipments.

Stomp that triangular box flat and get rid of it in a hurry.

You don't want HER to realize "you got ANOTHER one of those things!?!"

I have twice gotten cool Nepalese newspaper wrappings in Devangari script.

A challenge to try to read.... "Yangdu's news" :D :footinmou

Well, I take the knife out of the box and put it in the bottom of the fake bag of groceries. Flatten the box and stuff it under Dave's bed.
Then I put my floppy hat back on and sashe my way out past the doorman and down to the bus stop.

"hello, Mrs. Hahn"
"Hi, jimmy. How's it hangin?"

and so forth...

Wipe off the condensation (relatively warm and relatively moist air/cold steel) and apply Peek metal cleaner.

I clean it.

I don't know what kind of oil it shipped with; therefore, it gets removed and replaced with something I can identify. The rouge gets scrubbed off at the same time. If it's a horn handle, it gets gooped. If it's wood, the wax is buffed off with steel wool and Ballistol is applied.

Same deal for firearms. It's non-negotiable. Call it OCD.

Maybe I'm dense, but I don't get it.
Sometimes Yangdu will put a small silver khukuri or crossed khukuris pin in the box with the khuk. I've usually found them in an envelope.
