Whats the grind on the BK17?

I went to both SMKW and Tomars and both have the BK17 listed as a flat grind but the pics both appear to have the saber or whatever grind has those kinds of lines. I thought the first production runs had the saber grinds and the regular ones all have flat grinds. I was expecting the regular clip point version to be as flat from spine to edge as the regular BK16. I'm still figuring out what all the different grinds so tell me what kind of grind the BK17's in the pics below have. Sorry I couldn't get rid of that last pics of the 16 and 17.

here's one that looks like its FFG

I'm asking if the bk17 comes ground like this

here's the one at SMKW

and here's the pic from Tomar's which appears to be identical minus the first prod. run writing

Here/s a pic where a guy said he did an 'operation' to make his bk17 a FFG. Is that the only way to get it that way it to d.i.y?

It is a flat saber grind as opposed to hollow, not full flat grind.

Meaning that the grinds on the blade are perfectly fat like a V, a hollow grind is somewhat concave if you were to place. Level across where the grind begins and ends.

Flat grind should take more abuse.

If you want full flat grind, get a 16. Seems much better to clip a 16 than radically redo a 17.

That's actually a 16 turned into a FFG 17. I'll see if I could dig up the thread.

Here's a pass around of it.

A hollow grind is one of the few grinds I actually know, lol. I can see what you mean when you say flat saber though. I never get it when knives are listed as having two grinds. I saw one the other day that I think said it had flat grind with a convex edge and a secondary convex edge. I didn't know there could be a secondary convex edge or what it is. I had a bk16 and I loved it with the FFG but I still want to get the FPR with the saber grind cuz its like a mini BK2 and the 2 was a bit too bulky for me so I think the saber 16 would be pretty sweet. In reality I would love to own all 3 FPRs and the standard set but thats a hefty bit or $$

Really, the FPR-16 is the only one you need to own to complete the set. SMKW still has them, supposedly. I'm glad I got mine. It gets used quite a bit. More than my FFG-16, as the matter of fact.

Thats true since it appears to be the only one that is now made differently. I hope SMKW still has em otherwise I'm off to the 'bay when I decide to buy one which will me soon than later.

What you really need to look for are the unmolested saber 16s... THOSE are hard to come by! There are a few around though.

The 17 is a saber ground though. K9 managed to FFG a 17 which I snagged from the passaround. I'm not positive if he flat ground a 17 or swedged a 16. Either way I loves it!
