What's the hangman's noose for?

Forgive me, but I'm new to Sebenzas...What's the purpose of the cord? Is it just for looks? It doesn't make sense to call it a lanyard, 'cause I can't use it as one. Is it just decorative?

I'd like to remove it, It just seems to get in my way every time I pull the knife out. It doesn't loosen, but I don't want to cut it off if I don't have to. I'd appreciate any feed back from anyone...

By the way, I just bought the knife Friday, and it never ceases to amaze me why I didn't buy one sooner...I love it!

I find it easier to remove my knife from the belt sheath with the lanyard. You don't have to cut if off if you don't like it on the knife. It should just be easy to just unravel.

Congrats on the new Sebenza. Which one did you get?

You can untie the cord when you're somewhere you definately don't want to lose your Sebbie (on a boat, for instance),and use it as a lanyard around your wrist!

Congrats on your purchase!

On my EDC knives I take the cord off.

Congrats on the Sebbie!! Which one did you get?
I like the cord on the end of my Sebbies, it assists me when grabbing the knife out of my pocket or out of the CR sheath.

Try to reach for your Sebenza when you sit in a car for example... that piece of cord does the trick GREAT!

Yep, the lanyard can be great for pulling the knife out quickly and easily. Also, on the small it acts as a place for me to secure my pinky finger. That being said, when I started working in an office it was just too noticeable so I took it off and realized how descreet the small Sebenza became without it. Now I carry without the lanyard, but I still like it with too.

I have one on my seb for the same reason every one else does. The original was a little too long for my taste so I tied a shorter one. That did the trick. If you want to do this, just look on the CRK website. I think they have a diagram that shows how to tie it. Might be one on the BF too. There's some great resources on here!

I changed mine out for a beaded fob, also works similar as the hangmans
knot, to draw the knife out;

Now that's a cool looking lanyard, with a bead to match the inlay. Where did you find the bead?

You've also given me something else to think about, lanyard types and knots for different uses. A hangman's knot, or a braided fob, gives a lot of cord for long lanyards, or other uses. A simple overhand knot like the one with your bead, or maybe even a figure eight stopper knot to make it easier to untie (too easy?) is better for quicker on/off short lanyards.

The only time I've ever regretted having a lanyard was when a friend of mine thought it was a fun game to try and sneak my Sebenza out of my pocket. I convinced him to stop trying, but that did make me think that it was better to cover the lanyard with a t-shirt in warm weather, or slip the whole knife in my pocket, when I was in a crowd.

The bead was one in a pack of 20 beads in a Crafts shop, had to open the
hole a little bit to get the cords through.

When I have longer lanyard, I some times run it up under my belt or when
it's in a sheath on my belt I'll slip the lanyard behind the belt for added security.
