Apart from Busse production line, whats the hardest use production knife out there you think? I have an Entrek, its pretty ruff and ready for anything. My TOPs Tracker looks the part but I dont think that come anything extreme it'd survive :(

Hard to say, since I use primarily Busses (and Swamp Rats and Scrapyards).

I hear nothing but good things about a few other brands though, including Fehrman and Crusader Forge. At least those are the brands that come to mind first.

You'd be hard-pressed to bust up most Bark Rivers. I'd be impressed if I saw someone who managed to break a Bravo-1. I think the Bravo-1 is actually a stronger design than the RAT RC-4. I've done things with my Bravo-1 that I'd hesitate to try with my RC-4.
The KaBar Beckers are pretty heavy-duty knives as well.

I forgot about Ka-Bar. Eric Fehrman seems to be right up there with Busse. Every time one name comes up so does the other.

In alphabetical order and not sure if all of these qualify as "production"

Bark River (even though it pains me to say, as I HATE the owner)
Crusader Forge
Ferhman
Mission
Rat
Scrapyard
Swamp Rat

bluntedgedinstrument,

i have the entrek "companion" and it is certainly one high quality knife, small enough for fixed blade edc and with a great warranty...it is one of the few that i have that i will never part ways with.

not to start a flame war (PLEASE) but after doing all the research and personal testing i have to wonder why anyone that was going into "harms way" would choose anything (within their budget of course) other than the busse/swamp rat/scrap yard family.

one may not like the "noss" testing, but it does serve a purpose.

i especially find the side-impact hammer blows revealing...quite incredible that any knife could sustain such impacts...some that survive are thinner than others that fail...interesting.

best to all,

pepper

Please do tell!
(A good story just might sell me on that knife, or it's bigger brother.)

I've also heard that the Fallkniven knives are pretty tough, but not quite up to the extreme standard you'll get with a Bussekin.

Noss did a test of the HI Ang Khola. The blade was immaculate; its weak point was the horn handle and rat tail tang.

However, HI offers wood handled, full tang Ang Kholas, too, meaning all weaknesses disappear.

don't know anything about the HI kukris...i bought the kabar model for about $45 but have not tested it yet.

the kabar is shaving sharp out of the box and it recvd good reviews but...you know how that goes.

guess i should have researched first; i did not really do my homework on that one...from what i'm hearing the HI's are superior...thanks for the info!

hmm...guess i was expecting more from the HI, just watched the noss vid.

the one that really impressed me is the skinny ash...3/16 and tough as hell.

i was really looking forward to the SRK video; it's a pretty impressive blade and i thought w/ the carbon v it would take a lot to destroy it...not so.

no axe to grind, but these other guys that are claiming toughness need to give it a rest.

whatever the steel/heat treat busse & co. are using.....not even close from what i've seen.

Strider or Rat Cutlery. Rat probably has the tougher 1095 and no questions asked warranty, but Strider has folders.

For a cheap hard use knife you would be hard pressed to do better than the CS GI Tanto. The thing takes a wicked beating and keeps on ticking, far and above what I think a normal person would put it through, and it is dirt cheap to boot. keepem sharp

PS High end would the Busse Noss tested.

There is really only 2 Companies knives I would want with me in that extreme situation.

Fixed blade would be Busse.

Folding would be Zero Tolerance.
