Whats The Hole For

Well i Just ordered a GW and was woundering what the hole is where the handle starts. Is it just a guard???

There's a whole thread on the talon hole somewhere. One of the uses you'll see is creating a kind of "D-gurad" by tying a lanyayd from the guard to the rear talon
 
If you look through it at just the right angle, you can translate HOG snorts into English.

It started on the big blades. The early Steel Hearts has a sharpened d-guard (called the "Holy Tearer") option that attached there. The hole became a way to identify a Busse blade, regardless of the size.

The Talon hole on the GW ends up as just a Trademark but as you can see from lunde's pic it is a great place to keep Moose fat for later!!! Or was it Caribou?
 
Here is the same knife after being washed using hot water and a stiff nylon brush, followed by WD40 and a stiff nylon brush:

Cool! That's almost more 'guard' than 'knife.' Looks good though. Wish I had the patience.
