What's the law in Florida?

I'm leaving (driving) for Florida in 2 weeks for my honeymoon. Thanks to HR 218 I'll be able to take my duty weapon on the trip with me, but will have to leave the pistol locked in the room safe while in the Disney parks. What is the law in Florida and policy at Disney in regards to folding knives? I'll feel naked enough being without my pistol for the first time in probably 5 years and will want the soothing comfort of a sharp and pointy object in case something needs to be reduced into smaller peices. At the same time I don't want to unduly frighten the fine professionals working the metal detector at the park gates, or have one of my better knives confiscated. The current plan is to buy a Kershaw Vapor 2 just for the trip, just in case it gets taken. That way I'd only be out $30. I remember the last time I was there guns were verboten, but pocket knives were ok, but that was well before 911 and the ensuing "security" restrictions. Anyone know?

I live a few hours from disney and have been there so many times I am sick of them but I gota admit I could use a few days off. I have been there several times since 9/11 and although the security is better and you will be searched on occassion and women's purse etc will be searched for sure.I have carrried a Spyderco delica without a problem. This was not intended, I just forgot about since I always have a EDC with me. I may have been lucky but I did hop from park to park all day without a problem and I kinda have a biker look. Bottom line only take what you are prepared to loose and if you get caught the least thing that will happen is they will ban you from all the parks complete with your mug shot. I don't even want to think worst case. I would have to say for someone such as myself who carries both a firearm and knives everyday of my life for the last 20 years I felt quite comfortable walking through the parks unarmed. I'm sure I could have improvised should the need arised. Florida law allows non permit holder to keep a firearm in a motor vehicle as long as it is not readly available. Loaded and in the glove box is acceptable. So leave it in the parking lot along with all your other sharp objects. This way they will be close by when you leave the parks for the other tourist traps that you may be more likley to need them. I wouldn't worry about the safety of leaving them in the car. The security at the parks especially the parking areas are patroled and have CCTV monitoring. I locked my keys in the car once and tried to terieve them in less than a minute security was on me asking for I.D. Hope this helps and have fun

There are no metal detectors and no searches of persons. There is a very crude cursory search of all bags and containers. There is also no law stating you cannot carry in the park. The company policy may state no weapons however. If you carry concealed as intended your day will pass without incident. If discovered within the park property you will be asked to remove the offending article at which time you may re-enter the park. If you refuse you will be charged with criminal trespass and escorted from the property by staff as well as local SO. As a native Floridian as well as CCW holder I have visited every theme park multiple times, all while carrying concealed and all without incident. The last time we were at Disney/Epcot/MGM I had my Spyderco, Glock and Surefire all concealed and sporting my favorite Springfield Armory tee shirt. Waved right in with a smile and no worries.

Excellent. I'm pretty comfortable being in the parks without a firearm, but just can't quite bring myself to go anywhere without a knife of some sort. I mean, what if I suddenly come across a seatbelt that just needs cutting? Not to mention those dangerous packets of film that must be slashed open. I will be travelling with my dept issued pistol, so if it gets stolen out of the room safe it will be the city's loss and not mine. I know Six Flags St. Louis checks for firearms, but allows pocket knives (unless they are obviously intended for Covert Deanimation) into the park and figured that Disney was probably the same. Thanks for the info. I will probably stick with the Vapor 2 just in case. Besides, the 440a steel will better resist the salty Floridian air. Now that is rationalizing a knife purchase!
