Just recently moved to Ohio and I need to find out what kind of restrictions they have in regards to knives.
Can I carry my BM 710 legally? Any fixed blades allowed to carry on your person??
If any of you guys can help me out, I would be grateful.
I have tried looking at the State Legislature website, but it only mentions restrictions against, the usual, ballistic knives, switchblades, and gravity knives...
Anybody here have some info???

The laws in Ohio from what I understand are very tricky! First of all, there is not really a blade length law for the state of Ohio restricting you from carry. BUT, each municipality has there own laws regarding knives instead. Airports, Federal Bldgs, Schools are all governed by Federal laws.
State Bldgs have their own law too, but I'm not quite sure what it is anymore. It used to be no more than a 2.5" blade which would rule out just about all fixed blade knives.

In the Ohio staturts they only state no automatics or gravity knives such as butterfly knives & switchblades. These knives are specifically Illegal. That's about all that is said regarding the legalities of knives in Ohio.

I live in a township where there is no law to blade length or knife carry. I can carry a 6" fixed blade knife if I want or any kind of folding knife, except autos or gravity because that is a state law.

In Cleveland where I work a policeman told me no longer than his badge, which is 2.5" long. Doesn't matter if it is a fixed or folding knife.

In Lakewood, no locking knives are legal.
So, each city has their own laws for knives.
If they don't you go by the State laws.

Best bet, check your municipality for their laws. To play it safe, just don't go into a State Office Bldg. with anything other than a small pocket type knife. Better to be safe than sorry!

P.S. Hey Joshua, jump on over to the Community where the United States Knife Knuts Forum is. There is an Ohio Knife Knuts Roll Call thread there!

Just on another note, most police in the municipalities that have their own knife laws won't bother you unless you are doing something else illegal at the time. Jails are already overcrowed!

Just don't be in the wrong place at the wrong time, too!
