What's the most popular benchmade axis lock knife?

Since you have the "decent budget" qualifier, I'd have to say one of the standard Griptillians would fit the bill. I have two and they're excellent knives.

I thought you would say that. I put a WTB ad out. If I don't get any offers I'll just buy a new grip.

You should be able to get a used 710 (probably the actual most popular Axis knife) for only a little more than a new Griptilian.

I've seen some good used 730s out there also and these are very good smooth working folders designed by Alen Elishewitz.

My vote would be for a 710HS used. Those can be had for around $60-70, and are very high quality. If you don't want a knife that big, the Grips are great, as well, but the Ritter Grip with S30V is better, although more than a new 710, sometimes. I actually carry a 730CFHS, and I feel no need to get another Axis lock knife.

As far as popularity goes, I think the 94X series is probably tops. Tough knives with a gentlemanly look. I rarely see any used ones for sale, so that must say something.

On a decent budget? You know what would the average joe buy?

You will hardly ever see one or read about them in the forums but I like my "921-S switchback". Mine is a California Raisin purple color (new ones are blue or black) and has two blades. They are the only multi-blade knife that I think Benchmade makes. Good steels, and good designs IMHO. I find them comparable but less expensive than the 940 series.
