What's the penalty for...

Uck, probably not a pleasant one. My guess would be that it counts as an indictible or hybrid offense (fraud, plus some other possibilities). I would suggest that you don't go for it and just try to find it on the underground or private market here. Stuff like Balisongs are illegal here but they are still sold by individuals. Depends on what you're looking for, but I would really suggest against it, 'specially with the increased border security nowadays.

Thanks for the tips guys!

Migo, I wasn't aware of private or underground dealers in Canada? Isn't that illegal and hard to come by? Email me and let me know.

Err..and you were just wondering about importing an illegal weapon into Canada using falsified Customs documents? Not to mention possession of a prohibited weapon...going by your handle that is.

I'm not against you, but it's *all* illegal when you're talking about prohibited weapons and you don't possess documentation giving you an exemption.

Pierre,

I'd appreciate it if you didn't make any assumptions based on my handle. I personally don't own any illegal weapons, however, I know of several individuals who do.

I was just curious of what type of penalty is enforced.

Yes, I have thought about ordering knives from the States, but after 911 and the increased security I don't want to take any risks.

I am also not a criminal and I come from a small town. I wasn't aware of the availability of banned goods through the so called "underground". This surprised me and I was interested in hearing more.

I'm new to this forum and I might not ask the most brilliant questions, but I am entitled to learn as much as you are.

No more accusations please!

I don't know specifics, but there's undeground everywhere. As for private dealers, just go to markets and stuff like that. Knife store owners might have some info on that, some might give you the info you need if you tell them why you're looking, others you might want to just inquire about private sellers. Look around, I don't have anything specific. As far as I know, there's nothing wrong with having certain weapons, you're just not allowed to carry them.

Your handle implies that you are interested in/possessing balisongs, which are illegal in Canada. I think that's where he got the criminal thing from, not specifically saying that you were a criminal, just interested in criminal stuff.

Balis,

Sorry, I wasn't making accusations of what you do possess, merely making assumptions about what you want to possess.

I don't blame you, I'd love to have a balisong as well. As well as automatics.

In my mind, they're all good.

It was just odd that you seemed surprised about an illegal underground market for knives yet you were wondering what the penalties were for importing prohibited weapons.

Pierre

Pierre,

Don't sweat it! All is forgiven, I should have been more clear regarding my inquiry. I chose the handle because I am interested in Balisongs and it complimented the forum. E-mail me if you can help extend my collection in any way.

Thanks

They would probably catch you, they held a Ka-Bar I had shipped from the US in cutsoms for a week beacuse they couldnt figure out what a "Field Tool" was(thats what the company filled out on hte customs form) and had to rip it open. Even after they called me and I told them it was a 8" Tanto style Tactical knife.

BTW your best bet to grab something illegal would probably be to ask around local knife stores, preferably ones in not so good parts of town.
