What's the popular culture among knife collectors?

Is the popular culture now tactical folders?

About half a century ago, I reckon it was just penknives of the whittling kind.

These days, technology and the elevated skills of knifemakers have pushed the boundaries beyond yesteryear's limits.

Fixed blades will always be there. You just can't shake that one.

Neck knives threaten to grab centrestage at one time and relaxed its hold after a short spell of being in the limelight.

So what are we stuck with now?

I'd have to agree with you about tactical folders being a 'hot' collector item, presently. But as to the question: 'What are we stuck with now'? I'd have to say, we aren't stuck with anything! I like to think of it as a great big wheel slowly turning 'round & 'round - I like this one & this one & this one! Next week I'll see something else that looks interesting! My favorite will always be Bowies but I keep sampling that big, ol' wheel for folders of all kinds, miniatures, hunters, fighters, kukris, autos, daggers, etc.! :D Come to think of it, I don't own a neck knife - back to the wheel!!:)

The trend will be 'pretty' tacfolders.
Fewer 'GrayTurds' and black blades.

That's my guess & I'm sticking to it!

Ebbtide, well said. The knives you describe are really getting b-o-r-i-n-g, about as interesting as an old slab of concrete.

I agree with the above replies. Tactical anything is the rage now. If its got a black blade and advertised as tactical (used by SEALs, swat, Rangers, etc), it will sell. Fooled me, didn't it?

Sounds like another "Golok question" to me.

I believe that even trends can be subdivided. The wheel concept is a good one, there are many levels to the wheel. In tacticals, you still have the gray / black Tacticals, which decended from "survival" knives. You also have the subdivisions; pretty tacticals, Kerambits, specialized models like the "Gunting", etc.

I believe that legality on sizes will usher in smaller "tactical" knives, like our "little Big Knives" concept, which permit "tactical" strength and toughness without the illegal length.

I see the increase of "very nice" gents folders. These offer the aficianado the "easy" carry of a PC model that doesn't raise eyebrows or scare sheeple. Yet still permits the appreciation of the quality.

Thanx Golok, for the though provokers.
