What's the purpose of this blade shape?

It's a "Marttiini Bush Chopper Machete" (8-1/4" blade).

EDIT: As the name implies, it's for bush clearing, but why the shape? How well does it work? And why are Fins making machetes? :D

Maybe it helps with draw cuts or inward slashing cuts?!? If this was used for grasses, the curved tip would help "bunch" them together for a more controlled slash?

Interesting shape - I, too, would be interested in knowing more about this blade shape.

Looks like someone has tried to marry a khukri to a billhook. The billhook to concentrate the shearing action on thin stuff by trapping it and the khukri bit to pound on heavier sticks.

I've seen that before. It intrigues me, but I'd go crazy without SOME kind of usable point on the blade.

I wonder how it would work on the hardwoods in the U.S.?

Marttini is a Finnish maker who used to make traditional billhooks - with a hooked end, commonly known as vesuri in Finland... They went 'up market' some years ago and came up with this new billhook design which is neither fish nor fowl.... It is reminiscent of some billhook shapes found in other counties, but most definitely not those from Finland...

It's an attempt at making a billhook design that still has the clearance during the cut that a conventional machete has. I don't like how they did it, but I like the thought. I have a design I intend on producing at some point that tackles the same issue in a different way.

Thank you for the perspective. Makes a world of sense now!
