What's the Quality of Colt Knives?

i personally would only buy knives from a knife brand, and while I may not know much about knives, I do know that generally "Jeep," "Hummer," "Winchester," etc. knives are not necessarily high quality. I'm not sure about S&W knives, they look pretty good to me, and I don't really know anything about Colt knives. But as a rule, buying knives from a knife company is your best bet for quality.

LOL. No one needs to say anymore. Thanks. I have never owned one and was curious. Don't think I'll ever own one now.
sorry, n00blet here. why is being owned by united bad? and what is this united of which you speak? I assume not United Airlines.

United Cutlery - they make cheap production knives out of low grade Pakistan steel. Like Frost Cutlery and the like.

United Cutlery. They make a few very good knives but mostly inexpensive stuff. I have one old one that is a bowie type fixed blade. It holds an edge very very well. Its marked 440 steel.

Sometimes you do get lucky with them. I remember back in the early nineties I had a couple good United Cutlery knives.

UC has the potential to be a quality knife manufacturer. I'd even go so far to say that they could make blades that rival Buck's. The problem is that they are perfectly content with making junk, for no other reason than the fact that they have been doing well that way. I can't blame them for not wanting to change.

I'm pretty sure their latest stuff is crap. BUT I have a Colt Python II liner lock that's been in the collection for probably 6 years now and I've had zero problems with its lock (no blade play) finish (typical scratches) or edge. In fact, this is the knife that's left the biggest scar on my body. I'd say if you can find one of these, you'll be ok but anything else probably isn't worth it. My rule of thumb now is "If it doesn't have a forum, there's probably a reason."

I'd never put those 2 companies in the same sentence, let alone speculate UC "could" have the same quality as Buck...

Just my .02 ;)
