What's the Scoop on Buck Striders?

Did a search and got lots of info, but I figured I'd ask around here for concise, up to date info from folks in the know. A buddy of mine has asked about trading me for a knife that has some cool factor, but I wouldn't miss terribly. He has a Buck Strider folder, the "small" one with the spear type blade. Blade about 3 inches I'd guess. He has been lusting after a micarta handled Newt Livesay Little Pecker in a neck sheath I've had for a while.

Stupid trade? I'm assuming the blade on the Strider is 420 HC, but maybe it could have the BOS steel. Dunno, haven't seen it yet. He likes the Livesay way more than me.

Let's assume it is the "cheapest" Strider, Would you consider a swap?

Thanks for the input.

Sorry, I don't know much about your knife you are considering trading. :o

With that said, if its a buck strider 889 with a black oxide blade its worth 50-80ish. in good shape.

If it is one of the ATS-34 models (especially the G-10 handles) its worth 100+ depending on the model.

I would trade it for a Buck Knife! :D

Are you talking about this knife?

Cabela's closed these out a few years ago at $39.95. I grabbed a few because I thought it was a good deal. It's a cheaper version but it does have the BOS stamped ATS-34.

Note it has rivets instead of screws.....cheaper version, but still good.

Check e-Bay, but I think people still get close to $100 for some of these and better for the more expensive versions. The ones with partial serrations like this sometimes go cheaper because some don't like serrations.

Thanks, guys. Thinking I'll probably swap it no matter what. No so interested in getting a "deal" just another cool Buck.

Thanks for the pics.

Anybody got any more?

W O W!!!!!

Thanks, Jim. I'm already falling in love with it and don't even possess it yet. Not a knife in the lot I wouldn't love to own.

Heading to a bbq at my buddy's on the 4th. Will post as to exactly what I ended up with.

Slick looking Taurus, btw.

Brought the Strider home yesterday (thought I'd already posted this but think I forgot to hit "send") and I like it a lot. It is a ATS 34 BS.2 with G-10 handles. Sort of like the one in the middle of Jim's second pic, except non serrated blade. My buddy was happy with the trade as well. This thing is built like a tank, but you probably already knew that.

Been into smaller blades of late, so I'm definitely happy with this one.

Of course you are happy with it, for one it came from a really great guy, and two, you can see and feel the quality of those folders. They are very solid and IMO they are the toughest folders that Buck ever put out.

hey guys, i was doing a lil digging for a particular knife that was given to me by my uncle a year or so ago and found this thread. my knife looks like what is being described by Harlycarly and looks similar to the knife in the middle of the pic posted by Postfallsidaho. my knife is stamped Strider Buck and SB.2 . on the reverse is stamped BOS with ats-34 just under. the blade does not have serrations and has g-10 scales. i've used it quiet often but it hasnt been abused by any means. i just don't know alot about this knife. any and all information would really be appreciated!
thanks in advance

In the middle of the #2 or #3 photo? They are the same knives but in different order in each photo.

in the middle of photo # 2...i'm thinking i have an 881 sp model but i'm not positive. thumb studs on both sides of the blade too

Understood. Yes, that's 881 spear point, smaller version of the 880. I've got the 880 but it is pretty large for EDC. The 881 might be a good compromise.

well i disassembled the knife today and cleaned it, there are a few light scratches on the blade but overall i'm really pleased with how it feels and looks. i'm going to sharpen it and possibly mirror finish the edge with my WE. thanks for all the info peeps !

my 881 SP cleaned up really nice and is sharp!! i didn't mirror finish the edge as i plan on using the knife but i'm please with how it turned out. not sure how to post the pics just yet but i'm working on it.
