What's the shortest handle you'd use? (for hawk)

Want to cut my hawk down so it packs better but haven't made up my mind how short I want to go. What would you say would be the shortest practical handle length for a CS Trail Hawk. Uses are light wood work and fire prep. Also, I don't carry a firearm so it would be my impromptu weapon if needed.

Before you get out the saw, I suggest that you choke up on your existing haft to simulate various lengths, give the different lengths a good trial, and find the shortest length that's functional enough for you.

What Steve said. I have done that and 14"-15" is the shortest I personally like. Longer is generally better for the uses you state, it's just not as convenient to carry around.

Have you thought of seperating the hawk and handle and packing them seperatly?

About 12"...Dont laugh that size is perfect for cutting limbs around a blind and butchering small game..

Yup, that's the plan. Hoping to go camping this weekend to try it out. Just wanted to get a feel for what others think.

I think this is about what I'm looking at. My GB mini at about 10-11 inches long is just fine but it looks a bit odd with the length of the bit on the Trail Hawk. Proportions are just a little off and it's all about looking good right?:D So, a couple more inches seems about right and that would be in the 12 inch range.
