I know they were originally a special order that was eventually added to the lineup, but for who and when ?
I feel like I first started seeing the 113 ranger about 6 years ago, but could be mistaken.

I am not aware of their originally being from a "special order" source. The 113 Ranger Skinner was new in the 2011 catalog. There was a Yellowhorse and a B&C custom the same year in the Legacy catalog. Possibly Copper and Clad has had some exclusive variations of their own in more recent times. /Roger

My bad, on their site it says it was originally created as a limited edition not special order.

So 2011 ? I guess I wasn't too far off.

2011 meaning production model. specials of that model were made before 2011, correct or am i misunderstanding you?

Well, there is the answer.:thumbsup::thumbsup: The BCCI website is missing the 2010 catalog. I did not see a 113 listed in the price list. A recheck found the 113 LE listed at the end of the 2010 price list. The "standard" 113 first appears a year later in the 2011 catalog.

Roger, like you I went to the BCCI web site and found the 2010 catalog now missing? Luckily for me I have the 2010 Catalog thanks to being a BCCI member and was able to look at the catalog. However, if the 2019 catalog ever goes missing from the BCCI site I will not be able too due to Buck not supplying catalogs to the club this year.

Download it and you won't have to worry.

Hickory n steel Hickory n steel nicely done. It definitely needs something it the choil. Unless you just want to look at it. On my user I moved the grind line to the other side of the choil to make it easier to sharpen.

You don’t think it’s too fat behind the edge right at the choil? It’s a sweeping grind with a choil.

It definitely is but I can still sharpen it ( my leg can tell you how sharp I got it ) and in a utilitarian role I don't use this part of the edge much anyway.

I was doing the obligatory hair shave test after having just sharpened and stropped it ( Buck didn't do a perfect job on this one ), and though I stopped as soon as I felt it I was too late

Hickory n steel Hickory n steel your modification at the choil got rid of the worst of it and looks better. It has a more circular curve.

I’m very particular about that spot on any blade. If a thick or high spot lifts the blade off the stone at all I have to correct it. Eventually it will lead to a wavy edge. I’m very ocd about the edge being perfectly straight from ricasso to the beginning of the belly. Then equally obsessed with minimizing the wear on the belly and tip.

Even if the edge on the 113 is ok from the start. As the blade wears into the sweeping grind it will rapidly get thicker And the thick spot will be wider.

it’s not perfect I know. It’s done by hand to show the potential. It is more functional. I don’t see any advantage to having the grind line end on that side of the choil.
